Call your surgeon. If you are constipated you may pass a few drops of bright red blood. I think the dark blood usually means internal bleeding further inside you. Guest guest
Okay ... got a question. Already called surgeon about this but while I am waiting for his reply wanted to hear what some of the veterans thought. First of all I FEEL great. Energy level good. No pain. Have moved onto yogurt and blenderized soup type stuff. However I noticed when I go to the bathroom which is still very runny that its mostly blood. Dark blood and bright red blood are running out of my rear end when I go. Now I don't have the belly cramping diarrhea. Just get the urge to go and this is what usually comes out. Is this normal at 12 days post-op should I just stop being paranoid? Or is this not a good thing and should I get more loud in my complaining to the doc? Any input is appreciated. Guest guest
Melanee, this is not normal, in my experience - maybe someone else has had it happen to them. I'm glad you have called your surgeons. It might be something as simple as hemmorhoids, but it might be something else, and better to have this checked. Guest guest
Melanee - I don't think this is a good sign. Go to the ER if you don't hear back from your doc. Better to be safe than sorry. Guest guest
My husband had ulcertive colitis and this happend to him not a good thing to have blood coming from you rectum in any way. Not saying that you have this in your situation but if I were you I would proceed to the nearest E.R or if your close to your surgeons Hosptital go there. Take care and I hope all is well, concerned,Hugs! nette > Melanee - I don't think this is a good sign. Go to the ER if you don't hear back from your doc. Guest guest
Melanee, You posted that you have C.Diff, right? When I finished my course of Flagyl I started getting runny stools again and then they became bloody. It was a type of colitis that the c. diff can cause. Are you still on your antibiotic? You should call the Dr. again with those symptoms. You can get anemic easily when you're a new post op. > yogurt and blenderized soup type stuff. Guest guest
I called my surgeon and he prescribed more Flagyll for me to take plus Prevacid (the anti acid pill). Told me to take doses of these (two in the day even though I didn't get them till after noon) and if I was still having the same problem tomorrow to call him so he could admit me via the ER for more tests tomorrow. Odd thing with all this is I am not going to the bathroom alot and I don't have any cramping. Its just lots of blood pours out the few times I have gone since yesterday afternoon. Wonder if the fact I held it in for an hour while someone was here fixing my PC from work has anything to do with this. Yes I know the anemic thing is a concern. Good for me that I tend to be a red blood cell machine. Even when I had female hemorrhaging a few years ago that lasted a couple months and had me in the ER 6 times dehydrated my red blood cell count was always above normal. Guess I am odd. I will keep you all posted was to what ends up being the outcome. I did have some blenderized bean soup (I added water and made it into this runny mush) and it was YUMMMMMMY. Amazing how foods I never really thought to enjoy now take on such a more wonderful meaning Thanks for all the replies and concerns. I am going to continue hoping it stops and I won't have to do the ER tomorrow but if not you can bet I will be sure to get there and get checked. Dear Melanee, Even though you feel great, I would take this to the doctor.. any type of bleeding from the rectum is not normal.. You will feel better and we will all feel a bit more comfortable after you get a doc/s opinion. Keep us posted. Hugs,
