Guest guest
Dear Arlene, My dietician told me not to weigh that often because infections, injuries, sodium, menstrual cycles, stress, and a ZILLION other things can cause fluid retention. You've had a bugger of an infection for what, three or four weeks now...? That plus your antibiotic use can cause fluid retention. Try and put your scales away for right now. I know. I know. It's soooo hard not to weigh but when you weigh once a month, you REALLY see the weight dropping off. Ask Mom about the scales. She'll set you straight. ::Big Big Sis Hugs:: Love, Trace
Guest guest
I went to the doctor today. I still have an infection at the incision site. It is very red. He put me back on Keflex. This is the 3rd time in 6 weeks. (Open RNY 1/20/03). Have to take diflucan again because antibiotic causes me to have a yeast infection. I lost 30 lbs. in 32days which was great. Now 14 days later, I lost 0. 0. I can't believe it. I spoke to the nutritionist he has on staff. She said it could be I was retaining water or too much salt from canned soup. I don't eat that many canned products. I eat mostly protein and veggies and very little carbs. I take 2 shakes a day. I just don't understand it. I sip water most of the day. She said not to worry. It will come off. &%$#$%&*((())*^%$$##. I want to scream. Arlene
Guest guest
Arlene: Remember me? We are in the same boat . Glad to know someone else is going through it. Infection @ the wound site? Yep, that's me. Had to pack it (where the wick was, I had LAP) up until about a week ago. Antibiotics? Yep, that's me. In addition to the wound being infected.... I got strep throat. Put on Augmentin liquid for 14 days. The day after I stopped taking it, got strep throat again! Back on the augmentin. I just finished the second course. Grrrrr. But, i am feeling better, and the incision site is slowly healing. I lost 32 lbs in the first 3 and a half weeks, then nothing. then, this week, I lost 10. But for 3 weeks, I lost nothing. I am glad the scale is finally moving again. It will for you too. Keep your chin up. Nice to talk to you again. , IL LapRNY Jan 21, 2003 -46 lbs frustrated > I went to the doctor today. Guest guest
Arlene, do an experiment and don't weigh for another 14 days and then see what happens.... I guarantee you will have lost something... Weighing every day doesn't make much sense when all kinds of things have an effect on your weight, including the weather. Cheers! Guest guest
Hi Arlene, When I was at 6 weeks out I had a 3 week plateau. It did finally come to an end! Your body is probably trying to figure out what in the heck is going on. You'll get past it. Good Luck, Bev frustrated I went to the doctor today. I still have an infection at the incision site. Guest guest
Dear Arlene, ::Big Big Hugs:: Even every two weeks can be disappointing when you're retaining fluids but you're a big girl and you can decide how often you'd like to weigh. I recommended once a month (which would work out to once every four weeks ::gasp: because it's very encouraging to step on the scales and see them go DOWN instead of up or staying in the same place. Mom recommends putting away the scales for the first two years. I'm not that disciplined. LOL But I try and weigh myself about three days after my cycle (after all the extra weight gain is gone) and I'm usually not disappointed, you know...? I usually see a 4-6 pound loss. If I weigh myself every two weeks or sooner, my weight can go up a few pounds, down a few pounds, up a few pounds and down a few pounds or ... it can stay the same for a couple of weeks. This is just an idea, Sis, so don't feel pressured to do it this way. Take good care and you're in my prayers. Love, Trace
Guest guest
Arlene, hon - relax. You are right in the middle of hibernation syndrome. Even if you don't feel overly tired, your body has realized it is starving and is hanging on to every last bit of energy that it can. To get it over the hump and convince it to get going again, try increasing your water, increasing your protein drinks to 3 a day, and try and get some exercise in. It will move again. Everyone hits that plateau about one month out. Hey, you've lost 30 pounds already. That's fantastic. Take care. Jeanne in WI Age 39 - Dr. T. Guest guest
Hi Trace. I don't weigh myself often. It was 2 weeks before I got on the scale again. Just very disappointed that I didn't even lose a pound. Nutritionist did say could be salt from canned soup which I do eat, but not often. Guest guest
Thanks Jeanne. I know we hit plateaus. I haven't really exercised. I have bad knees and I want to walk but the weather here in NY has be horrible. I promised myself I would walk everyday. I do try but knee pain hinders me. Arlene Re: frustrated Arlene, hon - relax.
