Guest guest
Hi, many years ago we had a thread going about zinc supplements and can this cause you to go into AF. After all this time I believe I have an answer, sorry about the wait. Having no thyroid due to amiodarone, I suffer with all the hallmarks of Hypothyroidism for me it's a coldness in the lower back and leg cramps and of course extreme exhaustion but all my bloods and urine show that I am taking the right amount of the drug. I have been through all the normal Drs and could not get an answer. Now turning to the holistic type practitioners for help I have discovered this. Very brief Primer. Your thyroid produces t1 t2 t3 t4, if your low or hypo the drs will supplement you with T4, this is totally inactive and has to be converted into t3, too much t3 Hyperthyroid this can cause an overload on your heart and can cause you to go into AF, that is a fact. With the shortage of this hormone then your heart slows Hypothyroid until you get normal ectopics (which we all get) and if there is a weakness with your heart, you can also go into AF. Not a fact but common knowledge to the drs who know what they are doing. There is also the role of the Adrenal glands to play in this, These glands carry the active substance to every cell in your body to help repair the daily damage. Now I am seeing a Dr from Belgium, who has started me on Vit B12 and Zinc. Also among many other things I take DHEA. All these supplements help to convert the T4 into the Active t3. I have found on taking Zinc , I am low with this mineral, that after about 20 mins I get hot, my brain power increases and my heart rate goes up. I have tried delaying the supplement until lunch time and found I am falling asleep all over the place, 20 mins after taking the pill I am short of breath and feel over loaded just like a caffeine buzz but 100 x powerful. I googled this information and found a host of replies to show that Zinc where low in the body helps to convert T4 to T3.It also increases testosterone in men and in turn that increases your conversions from T4 T3. Also another mineral that I have taken in the past is selenium and coupled with Zinc also helps the conversion rate. OK how does that help you guys, I am very, very, very, lucky as I had an ablation back in may 2001 and now thank god I am in NSR but for those of you who have not taken that route, then taking supplements like. Zinc Selenium DHEA Vit B12 All these can be found in the common multi vitamin may cause your heart to go faster or speed up and this may lead to an episode of AF. I remember asking Pro Hassagiuerre this question about zinc and he said of course Zinc will cause an AF bout but at that time I never thought of asking why. Of course this explanation has no scientific basis as I am an internet engineer but it does make sense. Any other thoughts would be welcome.
