Guest guest
I agree with on research in general. Why does everyone seemingly want a one size one way fits all EMS system? You can't make that work where you have NYC, LA County, Paducah, KY and Flynn, TX in the same great big country. If you research Boston and find good things then systems the seize of Boston need to emulate that and see if it fits but it's not likely gonna fit in Flynn, TX etc. Plus why is it every time there is one good study on anything we want ton change EMS practices on a global scale. No one I know in the research world in any field advocates that practice. Louis N. Iowa has begun that process and will be piloting the project next year. A task force was formed a year ago with the goal of developing EMS system standards. We began by attempting to wipe out the thoughts of " this is how WE do it now and we are awesome " . Not to mention the ever present " my system works well, why fix what isn't broken? " We set out with a clean slate... " IF you had to build a system from scratch, where there is nothing, what should it look like? What should every single person who drives through, lives or works in Iowa be able to expect from an EMS response, regardless of where in the state the event takes place? " There can be a baseline standard for EMS..it isn't one size fits all, but every single person who calls EMS should be able to have a reasonable expectation of the basic care they receive. Unfortunately, too much knee jerk reaction takes place to research, which as stated, does usually have some bias or slant of the researcher. Until research is no longer conducted by humans, that is simply a fact that has to be considered.
