Today on the list server I read where all are accredited in Florida. My

Texas in the top third. I simply (maybe I am to simple) fail to see how by

being accredited it makes any one program better than another.

In some ways I see accreditation as the same as passing an NR written or

skills test in that they prove nothing related to competency. I've taken enough

college level courses on all topics in a variety of manners (live, seminar,

on-line, etc.) to know that not all college level learning is created equal

just as not all EMT or PM Programs are not as well.

I just returned from an advisory meeting at the local college. The program

director was giving an overview of the program today. One of the topics was how

the college students are performing with NR in regards to other colleges and

teaching organizations across the state. Our college has about a 80percent pass

rate of students that take NR. At least we are not on the bottom.

Another topic that came up was becoming accredited. One of the interesting

comments I heard today was that here in Texas a third of the colleges who are

accredited are at the top of the list, a third are in the middle and a third are

at the bottom. It is a fairly long list.

Today on the list server I read where all are accredited in Florida. My point is

this! If being accredited is so good why then is not all the programs in Texas

in the top third. I simply (maybe I am to simple) fail to see how by being

accredited it makes any one program better than another.

As far as National Registry is concerned if they want our business they should

not be dictating terms to us. We are the customer. Somebody better wake up in

Austin and bid our business out to the provider that meets our needs and

specifications. NR is starting to remind me of Halliburton or Blackwater in

Irag. Loose cannons doing whatever they want and thumbing their noses to the

hand that feeds them.

GETAC - Where do you stand on this issue? You may be advisors, but you do not

have to be agreeable advisors.

By the way the other night I had the opportunity to hear Kinky Friedman speak

for the first time. That guy makes a lot of sense to me. I guess my mind has

totally slipped. Governor, heck no make him president.
