Guest guest
The original list of potential NR reps for Texas to be trained as Reps was sent to NR by DSHS. Then NR sent us all to training - we were required to attend to be a rep and that is where we received our " Rep Bible. " (That having been said, even though the standards have changed and things have apparently been updated - skills sheets and the like - I as a Rep have received nothing since then from NR in the form of guidance, notices, updates, etc. I have been a Rep since the beginning when Texas went to NR. The original list was over 30. Several of those people have disappeared or been dropped off the list or dropped themselves off the list or whatever. But I believe at last count there were still almost or about 20 left, but I could be wrong. I personally was repping exams 2 out of every 3 months until last April or May and had good luck with all my tests - a lot of return business, referrals, etc. However, I have not repped anything since this nor has any school approached me and asked me to rep a test in quite a while. I understand that there are other Reps out there too who have not been asked or at least not in a while. And a couple of times I WAS asked, the site didn't want to pay the Rep fee or expenses until sometimes WEEKS or MONTHS after the test, so I would be expected to pay all my travel expenses, hotel, meals, gas or airfare as well as wait on my pay for the job. I personally don't accept rep jobs that do not pay at the time of service and expenses covered if I have to travel to do it. I and others cannot afford to do that any more than most of you can. Besides, repping one of these tests is a huge responsibility as well as a LOT of work. So I tend to believe there are still enough Reps out here to handle the state load as far as " numbers " are concerned. Whether or not those Reps are " good " Reps, I cannot say - don't know. I think the problem is two-fold as far as the number of test sites available and the quality of test sites - many programs are not holding their own tests and are leaving students out on their own to go find a test site somewhere (due to expense, inconvenience of gathering equipment, booking examiners, logistics as far as location and space, booking enough candidates to pay for the test, and then paying everyone concerned that gets paid), AND NR really is not updating the Reps regularly to ensure that we are all still on the same page. It wouldn't hurt for them to sponsor an update program every couple of years for Reps (made available in various locations across this large state of ours so that Reps can afford to attend). I think that would solve a LOT of the problems and complaint issues I have heard by reining all the Reps back in, so to speak. As far as a QI thing, that is difficult. While I believe your situation (Wes) is legitimate and you have a valid complaint, this is not the norm I think. If a candidate has a legitimate complaint that is outside of the complaint process explained during the testing process and before results are given to the candidate (i.e. not receiving results in a timely manner, test lost, etc.) then, yes, there should be a method for candidates to lodge a complaint, be assured an investigation will transpire, and that the candidate will be given some sort of positive resolution. If the investigation leads to Rep error that was avoidable, then retraining of the Rep is first indicated (depending on the severity and type of the infraction). If the infraction is severe in nature, then a Rep could be pulled from Rep Status (that exists now but I do not know how firmly it is enforced and I am sure that NR doesn't want to pull that status since it is also a monetary income for the Rep unless the complaint is found to be justified and severe enough to merit that action - NR has liability issues there too I would think). So anyway, that is what I know thus far.
