Thanksgiving Day

Today is the legal, recognized holiday in the United States referred to as

Thanksgiving Day. In a historical context, the day was designated to commemorate

the memory of a meal shared by English colonists and Native Americans. However,

this blurs the reality of what the day is and why it is celebrated.

We should be thankful not for just turkey and dressing, but the beneficence we

receive in every day of our life. We generally wake up every morning, eat

breakfast and then we live through our day. We don't have to hunt, steal or beg

for food. For that I am thankful ... every day.

We join together with family to enjoy a large meal. We should be giving thanks

for the people we are sharing the meal with. Be they blood relations, married

spouses or friends, we will share with them the most precious commodities of all

- time, memories and companionship. For that I am thankful.... every day.

Following that meal, we will watch football, take a nap, play games, put

deposits in the memory bank... any number of activities that we have the free

will and freedom to engage in. For that I am thankful... every day.

We awakened to a beautiful sunrise, enjoy the wonders of nature, great or

small, around us and as night falls, reflect on the wonder of the world around

us and where we are in the cosmos. For that I am thankful... every day.

Celebrate every day as Thanksgiving Day, regardless of your nation, time,

faith or lot in life. Every day is truly one to give thanks to your Creator for.

Larry , 2007

" A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the

simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. " Proverbs 22:3
