Guest guest
Dudley, Speaking for myself as a inactive mostly retired coordinator I would like to know just how you can lump coordinators in a group as worthless do no goods. Now if that is not what you said, it sure did come across that way. I think the state of Texas has coordinators that are and have been doing a good job probably longer than you have been in EMS. Certainly longer than you have been in Texas. If NR had been put through the process you propose for the coordinators they surely would not be operating in Texas today. While I usually find your comments refreshing as someone gung ho in EMS, I certainly did not feel warm and fuzzy about your comments in regards to Texas Coordinators. I don't think there is a coordinator in this state that doesn't have EMS education as a priority. They just may not agree with your concept. If you are not a coordinator then you should become one immediately so that you may step up to the plate and be judged. Just my opinion. Henry A Longhorn says Gig 'Em (NR issues ad nauseum) > > > > Howdy my friends: > > > > As always, it was fantastic seeing y'all at the conference. Guest guest
Exactly and specifically what do we need to overhaul in the coordinator process? I would like all coordinators to have a minimum of a BS/BA in education, go through a mentorship program, and all programs be accredited. That will not happen until Dishes or someone else requires a all paramedics to have an AAS in EMS. Salaries are also going to have to come up to entice someone to spend 2 years in paramedic school. At least right now coordinators must have completed a 40 hour instructor course, served a while teaching, and complete the coordinator program. There are absolutely no course/education requirements for someone to be an EMS Administrator. Even though one must be a physician to be an EMS Medical Director, there is no academy or education programs required. So....right now, we are stuck with what we have. For the NR issue, coordinators must be allowed to conduct their own skills verifications as we did until the NR came along. NR reps could be an option if a program did not want to do skills verification, or Dishes decided the program was unable to conduct a fair skills exam. -MH ________________________________ From: texasems-l [texasems-l ] On Behalf Of THEDUDMAN@... I have no issue with coordinators being the ones that do the skills testing...but as has been stated before...if we can't require coordinators to have NR testing as a part of their class...how can we trust them to test the skills?? Honestly, before we re-do the NR process...lets look at overhauling the coordinator process, qualifications, and responsibilities.? I for one cannot accept a coordinator being responsible for skills testing until we have some better processes, rules and benchmarks in place for what a coordinator should be. Jane's explanation of the NR process was one of the most cogent and well stated emails I have seen on this thread for quiet some time.? Funny thing she said though (and it is usually " those private ambulance folks " that this gets applied to) is that coordinators won't do the NR piece because of cost...I.E. money...and again it boils down to that. I for one am satisfied with the written testing piece now.? It is easy to access, results are timely, and the pass rates are at a respectable level (I hope because we are better preparing our folks to take the test...and not just that it is easier).? The skills piece is still an issue but I think it could be better done if it was a requirement of the coordinators to provide it...fix that and make it work...then I would be willing to talk about coordinators just doing it at the advanced level.
