Val, Need help with HC dose

I am new to the group and grateful for the guidance that I have read so far.

I need some Val coaching on HC dosages. I have Hashi's and have been on 120mg

Armour for 3 months after 9 months of Levoxyl. My cortisol levels were tested

through saliva with ZRT last year and last week. I have been supplementing DHEA

over the last year and currently am taking 20mg daily.

Twelve months ago, when I could barely get out of bed (before starting any

thyroid treatment), my coritsol was:

12/12/06

am 4.3 (3.7-9.5 range)

noon 2.2 (1.2-3.0 range)

evening 1.4 (0.6-1.9 range)

night .7 (0.4-1.0 range)

Since starting the Armour a few months ago I have felt amazingly better and

expected my latest cortisol results to reflect how I was feeling. They don't,

are lower overall and now on the high end at night:

12/10/07

am 2.5 (3.7-9.5 range)

noon1.3 (1.2-3.0 range)

evening .6 (0.6-1.9 range)

night 1.1 (range .4-1.0 range)

These results tell me that my fatigue was about the thyroid and while I had some

recent stressors with my Dad being very ill, I expected to see the adrenals

respond or at least remain stable and that is NOT showing in these numbers. I

did dance for 2 hours before I took the night saliva so perhaps that affected

the night level?

I am having a thyroid panel done this week so have no recent results. I want to

start HC support. I have none of the physical symptoms of aldosterone

deficiency but have not confirmed with a blood test.

My doctor just wrote me an RX for HC and thought dosing 10 in the am, 5 at noon

and 5 in the afternoon with no dose at night would be ok.

What do you think would be a good starting dosage given my levels? I'm

concerned that there are MORE signs of adrenal deficiency even though my thryoid

has responded well to the Armour and that the night cortisol number has risen.

I've read that cortisol helps the thyroid get into the cells and I want to do

this without creating any adverse effect. Should I be alert to hyper thryoid

symptoms after starting the HC and back off the Armour if they present

themselves?

Thank you!!!!

Janet
