BERGEN COUNTY SPECIAL SERVICES

RESPITE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Live and Learn-classes for adults and teenagers ( ages 16+) with

developmental disabilites registered with DDD

Location Paramus, Woodridge or Hackensack

Dates Three 8 week cycles per year, Sept, Jan and Mar

Classes Example- Dressing for Success, Coking for the Novice, Arts and

Crafts, Computers

for beginnser, Sign Language 1, Shape and Shopt Aerobics, Putting you best

foot forward(dance class). Sports for the novice, Board Games, Digital

Photography.

Each class has a community linkage component, for example the Dress for S

uccess class will have parcipants to go to Bloomingdale's for a makeover.

Transportation is not provided to these classes, except if an adult attends

BCSS Rehab program one-way transportation is provided to classes. We will

assist participants in using Access Link to get back and forth to classes. For

GUTS( Getting Us There Sooner)- after school program. This after school

program is intended for students with pysical and/or cognitive disabilities

who

are registered with DDD. This program is held at the Solar House on the

BCSS Paramus Campus, 275 E. Pascack Road , Paramus

Times 2:30pm-5:30pm

Dates Tues and Thurs students 13-21, Wed and Friday ages 5-13. This is a

social and recreational program with community trips. The student to staff

ratio is 1;5; there is no nurse on campus for this program. No transportation

id provided for this progam except one way transportation to program for

students who attend BCSS schools. For information on this program call Doreen

Communtity Connections- After school program . This program provides supports

for a student with a disabiltiy, who is registered with DDD, to

participate in an extracurricular activity in their hometown; we provide the

support

( community integration facilitator). Students participate

in activites such as the Brownies, Black Youth organizations, chorus, drama

club,sports teams, YMCA, etc, The local district is responsible for

student transportation from school to program; paretn/family is responsible

for

transportation from program to home. For more information on this progam call

Work Ready, Work Now- is a job training and on the job experience program.

Students involved in this after school program participate in work related

classes and then participate in internships related to an interest or shop

area. This program started this summer and has two cycles (summer & fall).

This purpose of this program is to give students real life work experience,

and to enhance their workplace literacy skills. This program is funded by the

Bergen County WIB. Registrations froms for the fall cycles will be sent to

CATS- after school program for elementary and middle schools students who

are classified ED or ED/SLD. The Bergen County Division of Family Guidance

operaties this program. Program will be location in the Brownstone School in
