Guest guest
Maureen, I haven't noticed anybody staring but maybe that is because I am always looking at the ground to make sure I don't trip and fall. Mainly I have noticed that people are very helpful - opening doors and offering help with stairs, etc. Try to keep a good outlook about it (maybe the Celexa I take helps). Getting stressed does not do us any good. God bless, Sue in Calif. > When I am out in public with my walker or cane, people can be so rude > with their staring. Guest guest
Good morning Maureen, I find that when you smile at people and say good morning or good afternoon to people that are stareing really helps. People are very curious on why we walk like we do. There is a small pamphlet about PLS that is out there, I am sorry I dont remember how to get them. I am sure someone here will be able to give you the info needed to get these. My dear friend in Bend, Oregon gave me a couple, they are very informative. Anyway to get to the point, when people are stareing at you, you might try smiling and give them a copy of the pamphlet so they understand. We really need to get the info out there so people understand. Before I was diagnosed with PLS I had never heard of it before. I hope this helps a little. Have a great day, Sandy People can be so rude When I am out in public with my walker or cane, people can be so rude with their staring. I find it is mainly young kiddies or older people. The young kiddies of course dont bother me at all, because it is just plain curiosity for them but it is the older ones that annoy me. I think they stare because they wonder why such a young person (47) has to use the walking device aids and most probably think " thank goodness I am older and I am still going good " . I think that they dont realise that they are openly staring at me until i stare them down and then they smile and quickly turn away. I have found that staring back at them is the best way to stop them from staring at you. I cant get used to them staring at me because it upsets me greatly. It makes me realise that yes there is something wrong with me. When I am zooming around with my walker, I forget that I have a problem and am in the great frame of mind that i am no different to able bodied people. Then I get a stare and come crashing down to earth. It hurts me. Does this annoy anyone else?? and do you use the " stare back at them " trick? Guest guest
You have taught me a lesson here with your positive attitudes. I am going to do from now on what you people do when they stare at you and thats to smile at them. much better than a scowl from me. You learn something every day.
