Re: questions (late diagnosis)

I can just tell you from my own experience. My daughter was finally diagnosed

at 30 months old that she had a moderate severe loss in both ears and no

language. (It has now progressed to severe in both ears). We started with our

Early Intervention program here, she had speech 3x a week. And a hearing

impaired therapist 1x a week. The HI therapist was working with her on sign and

oral language. The speech therapist concentrated on oral mostly. By time she

reached her 3rd birthday she still had no language and no connection between

objects and words. We decided that since she still wasn't learning sign either,

that we needed to work heavily on one or the other. So we enrolled her in a

oral deaf school. There she gets speech 5x a week. She is now 6 1/2 and speaks

very well and isn't too far behind her hearing peers. Anything is possible with

a lot of hard work and love.

Best of luck!

Robin

Is it at all possible that a child might not be hard of hearing after

receiving a " refer " on two seperate occassions?

If she has mod-severe hearing loss, no understandable words at 28 months, will

she be able to learn to communicate orally still?

This is proving to be the longest 14 days of my life waiting on the ABR to be

done.

I am very very thankful for this list to read while I wait

Blessings and Merry Christmas
