Guest guest
Im sure this is no help....but we had the ABR and ASSR done at the same time. It took 3 hours. We knew his loss (not the numbers, just mild/mod) as soon as he was finished. He screamed until he got a bottle and was comforted. Ian was sedated for his. This may be the last of that type of tests, but in his future he will see LOTS of booth tests, etc. Tawnya ABR test >Hi all, > >Ricky's big test is in 2 days, on Wednesday. Guest guest
My girls both had ABRs before they were 12 months old. They give the child a sedative (either straight or mixed in a bottle). They hook up electrodes to his head (no hair shaving required). We had a nurse bedside the whole time to monitor heart rate, breathing, etc. I sat near the end of the bed, while the audiologist ran her tests (basically using a computer to simulate sounds through the electrodes and to measure brain wave response). I couldn't hear any sounds and my girls did not indicate any response during the tests. When the battery of tests are done, the audio should give you some general reading right there. Depending on how the child is handling coming out of sedation, you may have time to discuss it, or may need to follow up later. My girls did well with the sedation, but one threw up on the way home. (You generally cannot feed the child for some period prior to the sedation...they should tell you how long...an aftn appt. may mean all day without food...not sure...need to ask them). I can't tell you if aids are next after ABR, as we changed audio/clinics after the ABRs and new audio wanted to do her own booth tests before ordering aids. Good luck with this...you will be a giant step forward in knowing what the level of loss is after the ABR. Edith ABR test >Hi all, > >Ricky's big test is in 2 days, on Wednesday. Guest guest
Just to clarify, I meant my girls did not respond physically to the tests being done (meaning didn't flinch, cry with pain, etc.) They responded just fine to the test itself, so accurate readings were had. The test took about 45 minutes, but with the sedating/recovery, we were there about 90 minutes. Edith ABR test >Hi all, > >Ricky's big test is in 2 days, on Wednesday.
