Guest guest
I don't know what is causing my High blood pressure Val. It started at the exact same time I started back on Armour and isocort, but I was going through menopause at the same time too. So we have three likely suspects. Three theories. 1. I always had high blood pressure, but the severe blood loss each mouth was keeping the strain off my arteries and reducing the pressure. The only thing the ancient practice of blood-letting was really good for, was lowering blood pressure. I was not on Armour back then so I bled copiously, so much so I had to use adult diapers. Sanitary pads just leaked right through. 2. The hormone changes caused by the menopause itself caused the HBP 3. The hormone changes caused by going on Armour and Isocort caused the HBP. But no way am I going off of them! Either way I don't know what to do about it other than take High blood pressure meds which do seem to be working without any side effects. Lisonopril is an ACE inhibitor, which is the one to be on if your HBP is hormone related and is the one least likely to cause depression. In fact my moods and insomnia are a little better on it. It is possible it caused depression in you because it lowered aldosterone and helped me not to be so depressed because my aldosterone might have been too high. If I have to take a little extra thyroid, so be it. It beats having a bunch of strokes as folks in my family did. I've had fewer autistic " melt downs " since going on the lisonopril, too. My depression occurred decades before the HBP and is due to severe sleep deprivation from sleep apnea which was not diagnosed for decades (as well as hypothyroidism and other health problems in myself and my family not being diagnosed), so I don't think there is much of a connection. The sleep apnea is NOT under control. I have central as well as obstructive and the only thing that I know to help me would be getting a VPAP machine instead of just a CPAP and breast reduction surgery. I can't afford either of those right now. I need to lose 10 more pounds before I can get any health insurance of any kind at all, and since my apnea is a pre existing condition, getting insurance to pay for a VPAP machine is iffy. Sleep apnea can also cause HBP but if that is the cause, theory number 1 is true because my bp was low before menopause. Hensley <>< 8-) Val asked, Liz while on antidepressants, how would you know? Maybe with a better BP med or none at all and correcting the cause of your BP you might not need the antidepressants. It also might tmean you would need a whole lot less thyroid as it directly interferes with it working in the body.
