It is best to start with one but I used more and more quickly than they

recommended. It is up to you if you want to ramp up slowly or take a chance

and take more. You might feel some slight colon spasms then a bowel

movement about an hour later. Then a lot of relief. That is what happens to

me when I am sicker than normal and have to take more.

I take them right before I eat something. Normally I eat every two hours so

if I am scheduled to eat at 8 am for example, I will take it at about 7:45.

They work a lot better on a somewhat empty stomach.

You ideally want to take them before food because they help prepare the

colon for food.

I found some great research on them last night that I will post. I took what

Sol posted and researched what the anti-SBO crowd had to say and the pro-SBO

crowd and I am more convinced now that they are good for a person but will

post the stuff and let people decide for themselves.

Probiotics - question for Cheri

Cheri, how do you take them - between meals, before or after? The

label says to start with one an empty stomach and work up to 3/day.

Thanks,

.

I'm in pretty bad shape with the GI the last two days - I forgot my

Z-pack today (not on purpose) and my wife was going to bring it to me

at work but I told her to hold off b/c I don't think that I can take

it. I know that we need to finish ABs, but this one was only

prescribed as sort of a double precaution and I started it right on

the heels of stress-dosing earlier in the week to get over the crash

of the weekend, which helped but the HC was rough on my GI, and the

ABs that I finished last week in prep for the root canal. I'm about

at the end of GI tolerance right now and the digestive enzymes that

were helping aren't touching this. I've got the Primal D at home so

I'll try it before dinner - one cap for now I guess. Like you, I eat

all of the time so I didn't know how long the stomach has be empty.

15 minutes is fine.

Thanks,

Hi ,

How much HC do you take? When I got up to 20mg, my " GI " issues stopped

abruptly. By GI, I'm mean diarrhea. Maybe you could take enough more HC to

tolerate the rest of the Z-Pack?

Duh, I just read that HC was rough on your GI. I'm sorry. If you mean that

it hurts your stomach, I take it with food.

Have you tried kefir for your digestive issues? It is a wonderful immune

booster, inexpensive, and can be easily made at home.

Maybe you should try HC cream during some of your doses to take some stress

off your GI?

If you take one pill tonight, by tomorrow you can increase. What happens

with antibiotics, they kill all the good bacteria too so your immune system

is really compromised while taking it. The probiotics populate pretty

quickly but you need to get up to 4 pills before I think you will really see

results (at least I did).

Good luck and keep us posted. If you have any reactions, post those too and

I might be able to help walk you through it.

I'm up to 32.5mg of HC now and my GI issues had really smoothed out

prior to last week when I created a perfect storm of bad conditions

with a root canal, too much stress at work, antibiotics, and an Armour

increase. I crashed all weekend, stress-dosed on Monday and then

started the other antibiotic b/c my tooth was still bothering me and

the endodontist wanted me to do another course. I used to be able to

tolerate Z-Pack just fine, but I think that my GI is just too messed

up now. I always take HC with food, almost always protein. I take

digestive enzymes and I just started the probiotics so hopefully

things will smooth out again over the next couple of days.

I thought about that but they really seemed to be helping before my

crash last week. Maybe I was doing better in spite of them but I

don't think so. I guess there is one way to find out and not use them

tomorrow. Using cream tonight instead of HC pill too.

Thanks Sol.

Used the HC cream last night right before bed and slept from 11PM

until 9AM. I woke up at 2AM, 6AM, 7AM and 8:30AM, but fell back to

sleep every time without having to get up to eat, take more HC or

anything. Can't say that I feel totally rested, but it was wonderful

anyway. I think that I'll try to take a nap later too. I really

think that I've been having absorption issues with the HC pills (and

Isocort) from the start. I know that when I swallowed my AM Armour

couple of weeks ago, I was hypo all day. My gut must be really

inefficient. I'm really hoping for a big difference in digestion once

I get on enough Armour.
