We went through the same thing with my son. He actually had an ear infection

maybe twice in year with typical symptoms, but the other times we dicovered the

infection or fluid, it was because we were in the doc's for other issues or

trying to get his hearing tested. I finally thought about it and figured that

my son probably had fluid for at least a year. He had his tubes put in back in

April, and has done wonderfully since then.

The only symptom of ear infections that (6) gets is a total decrease in

his hearing. No fevers, no pain. But his hearing will go down and I'll go to

the ped to have him medically cleared before taking him to the audiologist and

every time it's an infection. I wouldn't worry too much about not knowing that

he had infections since most are self-limiting without the need for treatment

anyway.
