Guest guest
Why are you taking only 1/3 of an Ambien??? Ambien is a short acting sleeping pill, meant to help get you to sleep, but it wears off in about 3 hours, which is why you can take it as late as 3:00am and still get up in the morning. I would try taking the whole Ambien. I take Halcion (sp) my ins. won't pay for Ambien anymore - it is cheap, it works, not the greatest stuff - but as I ONLY sleep a couple of hours a night and some nights not at all and it has been this way for 20 yrs.........it is certainly better than the alternative. Somewhere in my Endrocine system there is an answer - wouldn't it just be great if the docs could figure it out?? I've had trouble sleeping since I was a child. Guest guest
Taking a whole ambien has no effect on me. Even on nights when I end up using a whole ambien, I take it in a couple of stages. One portion to get me to sleep and later if I wake up, I take more. That way I usually end up with a total of 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Ambien does put you in deep REM sleep. I took it often before and then got off it completely (which meant not sleeping for about 2 nights to get it all out of my body). Now because of the depressed ACTH (on 25mg HC cream) I get so exhausted, I have to resort to ambien sometimes. I just requested some ambien CR this morning from my internal medicine DR. Hopefully she will give it to me. I'll know later today. Wish I had a good overseas source for ambien or lunesta. Guest guest
Hi, KC, you sound just like me. My insomnia started in childhood too. And the past 20 some years have been godawful. I've never found a sleep med that works for me. Even the ones that leave me groggy and drugged feeling the next day don't help me sleep. Between my chlorpheniramine and .5 mg melatonin, I get some very broken sleep, doesn't add up to much, but better than nothing. I have decided to wait until I feel optimized on thyroid before pursuing any more sleep meds. To tell the truth I'm scared of them, as some gave me such bad side effects and/or left me so very grogged the next day. As much as I want and need sleep, I cannot bear the drugged feeling, which causes me to be totally non-functional, instead of just mostly non-functional. The side effects I've experienced included unimaginably horrible nightmares, so that I went from desperately wanting to sleep to being desperately afraid I would sleep. sol KC wrote:
