Guest guest
Hi , You mentioned your Mom got denied Medicare, my suggestion is to get a lawyer to represent you, it seems the word lawyer gets thing moving in the right direction. Is she on Social security? They might be able to point you in the right direction about the care giver question. I hope she continues to progress daily. God bless Sandy Medical... caregiver... I believe I already said my mom is in the hospital because of a pretty bad bed sore. She has been in there for over a month now. Well, now a rehabilitation hospital. Me and my sister go there every day to feed her. She wont eat for anyone else =). The doctor and case manager had a meeting with my family the other day. I told them that my mom was denied medicare and medical and the doctor said that they deny EVERYONE the first time around and you have to reapply. That doesnt sound right on the gov't part but now I am going to reapply. They said she WOULD be approved. My question specifically is about caregivers. Is anyone a caregiver or know of a caregiver? I think that the gov't pays the caregiver of a perm disabled person? Can anyone point me to information about this or tell me if this is true or not? Thank you,
Guest guest
My sister and family have been my primary caregivers. Now I need help when they are gone during the day. I need help getting into the shower/tub, bathing, washing my hair, dressing, with light housekeeping, passive stretching exercises, stacked breath exercises, and the stuff I just plain don't want to do around the house. Just 3 hours a day 3 times a week. I hope this frees up my family so that the time we do spend together is on fun rather than chores. The cost is a burden and could have been a show stopper. My only insurance is Medicare and they may only provide assistance if your in the late stages of ALS / PLS. (http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2002pres/20020726d.html) I've found resources that will help with the cost. The federal government funds state Caregiver Support Programs, which help to offset some of the cost. (http://www.aoa.gov/prof/aoaprog/caregiver/careprof/state_by_state/sta te_contact.asp) Support for Family Caregivers. Launched in 2001, the National Family Caregiver Support Program provides respite care and other supportive services to help hundreds of thousands of family members who are caring for their older loved ones who are ill or who have disabilities. In February 2002, HHS Secretary Tommy G. announced the release of $128 million in grants to states. See www.aoa.gov/carenetwork/. The ALS Association also has a program for Respite Care Grants. The Family Caregivers Alliance, National Center on Caregiving, can help find local resources. Email: info@c.... Guest guest
, I think a vast majority of us PLS'er were denied SSDI the first time around. I was denied the first time to but that was almost 10 years ago. I had a patient advocate go with me the second time along with a more detailed medical reports from my doctors. Second time around I did finally receive it. Don't know about caregivers receiving anything but if you can reach out to MDA clinic's they have many helpful contacts..............Hope your Mom continues to improve.........Flora
