Are you using windows a? I've never had that error, but a couple of

things come to mind.

Have you tried another floppy disk? Is it possible that a password got put

on the one you are using?

Did you log into windows using your password? It it possible that your A

drive was set up to be accessible only by you properly logged in(the

administrator)?

I wish I could help a, but I've never seen that one before.

Probably means the disk in A is not formatted. If it is blank, try

formatting it. If it has stuff on it, you should be able to open it is

Explorer and check to see if it is 'read only'

a,

I hope you get an answer to your question, I have had the same problem at

home. While we are on the subject of computer illiteracy, I have a question

of my own. I have a CD-RW drive on my home computer and am working on a

huge PowerPoint anniversary slide show for my parents' 50th. I wanted to

save it to a CD as backup, but have gotten error messages along the lines of

the CD is read only. What do I need to do? Does the CD have to be

formatted first like a diskette? Sorry, I'm a big computer dummy too. LOL

Yes, they do need to be formatted, and generally your CD-ROM drive would have come with software designed to do that. For instance, the software that came with mine is called Adaptec DirectCD. I'm sure there are many others.

After formatting, they CDs can be written to. With my software, it can be directly accessed through the D:\ drive. It also has an option to finish the CD after copying so that it can be read by standard CD-ROM drives.

Thanks for the information Terry. I do have Adaptec something-or-other for writing CD's. Dummy me I just thought I could do save as and point to my CD drive and it would save it. I will try doing it with the Adaptec software tonight. We had a storm that caused my phones and TV's some damage and I was in a panic that the hours of work I put into this presentation would be lost. No putting if off any longer!!! LOL
