Guest guest
Hello everyone, I'm looking for a bit of collective wisdom. Our son started in the Special Education preschool program this past Sept. He is doing quite well, his speech is coming along nicely. He is 3.4yrs. old and speech wise rates at a 2 yr. old level. My concern is he is doing so well in speech that he will now only qualify in one catagory - physical. He has a great deal of motor planning issues (Apraxia - motor planning issues), not running or jumping. Again he is about at a 2 yr. old level. I keep requesting an OT IEP meeting and I keep being told he's already receiving services by just being in the program. I stated I wanted something in writing to back up goals etc... I know May is a long way off but I can't help but be afraid of all the what if's if they drop us. I currently have him enrolled in karate and last week two of the 4 yr. olds made fun of him regarding his lack of running and moving slowly - poor motor planning. Fortunately our son didn't catch on to their comments but it effected me considerably. I can't help but wonder what a " regular " preschool could do to batter his self esteem. Any thoughts out there?
