Good question. I guess I have more energy first thing in the morning and

during the day. But man am I crabby! About a week ago I noticed that I was

doing exceptionally well with my kids lately; lots of patience, lots of

love. The past few nights I've been awful.

>Have you tried correcting th low thyroid?

No. All the wisdom says to address adrenals first, as you well know! When I

was first diagnosed I was not in such good shape but I seemed to adapt. My

labs have been more or less the same 5 times running but I feel sort of OK.

I just want my full get-up-and-go energy back.

Wow. I don't have any and cannot get it here. I'll have to look into this

and maybe go off the cortisol for awhile.

Full disclosure - I have been taking Lugol's iodine for a few weeks also. No

affect that I noticed before this.

Are your temps stable yet? What are they?

Haven't been charting yet. I guess I need to get to it. I have never done

anything re thyroid so I'm on a steep learning curve. If I'm going to order

something online for international shipment to Nepal, what do I want to

order?

Thanks,

I think the process is first to chart temps taken three times a day, 3 hours

after waking and averaging.

Once they consistently are within .2 degrees, then you can safely say your

adrenals are working well and focus on thyroid.

You don't want to quit cortisol now, nor do you want to start thyroid if

your adrenals are not steady.

This is what Val has been educating us on.

Your snapping at the kids could still be from low cortisol, or a bad

cortisol rhythm.

Yes, I know. I've been waiting since July of 2005 to begin treating my

thyroid but my adrenals never got better. Yet, I do not seem like I am in

stage 7. My nurse practitioner is, frankly, astonished and doesn't know what

to make of it.

I'm not just more irritable. I am having hot flushes (not " flashes " ) and am

buzzy, for lack of a better word.

I guess I'll begin monitoring my temps. Thanks for your input.

Ellie,

Do you think the iodine could have anything to do with it?

Iodine can influence sex hormones. I was able to quit taking progesterone after

starting

Iodoral. I was getting very cranky. Iodine helps to level out the hormones. I

would much

rather take minerals than hormones.

Maybe it is the elevated testerone making you crabby?

Multi-hour walks, running a business and raising two kids on your

own? I would tend to question the Stage 7 diagnosis too. Here's a

question: where did you get your labs done? You're in Nepal,

right? Did you mail the saliva to the US? Do you know how long it

was in transit? Maybe it took awhile to get there and the cortisol

in your saliva samples degraded, giving you a lower reading? Just

shooting out some ideas. I know I'm not Stage 7, but I certainly

couldn't do all you do!

That's why some temperature data would be really helpful.

Val will give you sources when you're ready to order.

Did you ramp up to that using the HC dosing schedule or did you start

out at that dose?

I agree with Barb, I question that stage 7 too. I'm stage 7, and if I

get the animals fed, litterboxes changed, get to the grocery store, or

cook dinner, or do one load of laundry or a little vacuuming, that is my

day, and I certainly usually cannot do all of those in one day. I can't

walk 15 minutes, or I'd be back to using my canes for a few days (done

it, in fact).

We musn't forget that a listed side effect of HC is mood changes/irritability,

etc. Som of us are more susceptible to this. e.g. I know that these steroids

make me a bit nutty, even though I am lacking in them. We had a doctor at the

alternative med facility I go to that treats " chronic fatigue " with cortef and

armour and he wouldn't give it to this woman who was desperately sick because

she told him she was bipolar. I guess he feared that this could cause

exaggerated mood swings in an already susceptible person.

BUT this is typical DOCTOR ignorance! Bipolar can be caused solely by

hyopthyroidism adn you cannot treat the thyroid properly wiht low cortiosl.

You are so RIGHT AGAIN Val. I've read all about the thyroid and bipolar in Dr.

Linn, if I may ask, how do you dose the Iodoral and at what times. My ND had

me taking it along with Naturethyroid but tI was still having hyper symptoms (

or maybe just high and low cortisols) so I haven't taken it for a while.

Many thanks.

I just raised to 30 mg 2 days ago, and also just raised my T3 to 56.25

My BP is still falling on standing, and my temps are not stable, but the

unstable temps happen for a few days every time I raise T3 so that

should level out again soon. The first day on 30 mg, my BP actually did

rise on standing, so though it is falling again, that should mean (I

hope) that I'm getting close to a my ideal dose.

My Pdoc and some of my fibromylagia support group can not take even low

steroids becasue it casues mood issues. My pdoc was concerned only with the Pred.

as it is pretty strong, especially at 50 mg. it can make one feel up and then

when off can cause major low mood.

For me I am on two medications for depression, today I got some of my serum

tests back and it shows very low thyroid and hormones.

I do feel even when I was taking HC , a tiny dose ,as my doc was trying to

help me after the er put me on 5 days of 50mg. Pred. and then bam off that I

felt more irratible. I usually like that only for the most part a week for my

peroid.

I shall see how I will precede after I do the salivia testing. I do knowmy

pdoc will want my blood serum taken more often if I do eventually go on Armour

and HC.

It is liking walking on a tight rope when on two AD meds and then trying to

wean down on them and to get on a close emough dosegae of the HC and armour so I

will not feel so low as I did years ago when I went to the ER becaue I was

really felt like nothing mattered and they checked me out and then said I can

go home because I did not have a plan to kill myself. Thank goodness my aunt

and uncle came to the Er adnd at that time I did not live in same state as my

mom and dad , my dad go on the next flight he could ge on and the next day he

got me ot a good pdoc. Now I do believe is was low thyroid and my adrenals then

were giving out not as low as they are now.

Herbs, vitamins, medications it is all a balancing act, at least for me

anyways.

Hope you are feeling better.
