Guest guest
KC, I don't think it's the experience of the 700+ members of this list that most people lose quickly. Many people will have a large induction loss. Many, but not all. Then the rate of loss slows. I lost about 40 pounds on Atkins and it took me the better part of 9 months to do it. So I think the term "most" is not accurate as applied to the experience of this group of people congregated here. Terry168/158.75/156 (minigoal)/ ? (To be determined) Thank you, sweetie! I know I ruffled a few feathers, but I can't help but feel the way I do. As I've said several times before, if I'd gotten a message like the one I sent today even last year, I'd've taken exception to it. I would have gotten defensive, and I probably would have disapeared for a while. But then I would have also gone back to my comfort foods and the weight would have begun to pile on again. Like many others on this list, I've tried ALL sorts of different things. I too resorted to bulemia (which I now know isn't as much a food issue as one of control). I took the pills, I exercised obsessively, I ate next to nothing... And I even had some success with each of those methods. But in the long run, they didn't work because I wasn't ready. Sure, I was ready to not be fat, but it takes much more than that! And I wasn't ready for all those extras yet. For those extras, I had to face parts of me that I just wasn't ready to deal with. This time around though, I flipped that magic little switch, and boy, did it make ALL the difference! It's such a liberating feeling! So all I can say to the people who are " depressed " by the " Golden Shot " message or my response to those who were depressed by it is this. If this is the time that you're able to flip the switch, then CONGRATULATIONS! It feels great! If this isn't the time though, that's OK too. But I assure you that later on when you are ready to flip the switch, you'll wonder why you thought my words were so harsh. You'll get a whole new perspective on things just like I did, and you'll have great success! In the interim, I won't take it personally. -- in Indy (262.5)253.5/229/150 3/26/
Guest guest
Thanks for that useful bit of knowledge. In my experience, in the real world, most of the people I know have lost weight very quickly. The only person I know who has not lost as quickly is my doctor(who put me on the diet). --- " Terry L. Guest guest
Hmmm... it's been my experience in the real world that most of the people I know have hair that grows really fast... while I really take good care of mine and struggle to get it past my shoulders. It's also my experience in the real world that most of the people I know have gorgeous teeth... while mine are terribly far from perfect. It's also my experience in the real world that most of the people I know have nice petite sized feet... while I have these size 9's that terribly gargantuan when I look down. But then again, I'm probably wrong. Guest guest
You are deep Marlena! Just for reference, my hair does grow really fast, my teeth suck because I have a deep phobia about dentists, and I too have size 9's (although my mom has always said I have very pretty feet). Guest guest
Ok, so far this list has not been very supportive at all. I state my opinion and I have a bunch of people coming at me. Sorry if you don't like what I said. For me it is true. I can probably find better support at another group. --- Marlena M wrote: > Hmmm... it's been my experience in the real world > that most of the people I > know have hair that grows really fast... while I > really take good care of > mine and struggle to get it past my shoulders. Guest guest
Don't take offense KC. We are all just stating our opinions here and trying to express what we have experienced with this WOE. You can take or leave anybody's opinion, but input is always a good thing :-) Kirstie
Guest guest
KC, I'm sorry you feel that way. You, like everyone else here, are entitled to your opinion. I encourage the expression of opinions, and frankly, I enjoy the exchanges we have as we discuss differing opinions held by list members. Please don't interpret a disagreement with your opinion as a lack of support. I know that everyone who has posted today would be elbowing one another to be the first in line to prop you up when you are down, celebrate a big whoosh when you have one, and help you come up with suggestions to help make this WOE work for you. There are many things posted on this list with which I do not personally agree. For instance, I believe that truth is not something that changes from person to person, but is an absolute unchanging standard. However, many people don't believe that, and I'm just as excited to support their weight loss efforts as I would be if we totally agreed on every point. I don't see one thing as having anything to do with the other. So, just know that this group of people IS here to support you, and along the way we have some lively and spirited discussions which should not be interpreted as personal insults, because I don't believe they are intended that way. We do have some very sharp witted and sharp tongued individuals who post and as you come to know them, you'll understand their senses of humor a bit more and come to appreciate them a little more too, I bet. Stick with us, and we'll stick with you, OK? Terry168/158.75/156 (minigoal)/ ? Guest guest
Suzanne, How long have you been doing this diet ? How much have you lost? I ask because I appear to be losing slowly too, although it may be too soon to say (I started 2.5 weeks ago, lost 6 lbs the first week, gained 2 the second and haven't lost any since). I'm also not getting discouraged but *would* be happy to hear that you did lose some later on . And of course I do know that I *have* lost 4 lbs instead of gaining 10 which I could have, easily . Guest guest
Hi Vered - I started late Feb (like the 23rd or so) at 193. So that's 5 months now. I've lost 25 non-fluctuating pounds. Meaning, 25 actual pounds, not water weight. I started slowish, and have been slow and steady since. I have to admit, though, I raised my carb intake for about one month, knowing I wouldn't lose, but just not wanting to gain. (I hope that doesn't count as going " off " and " on " again and mean I've lost my golden chance!!!!) What I would say to you is that you really do HAVE to give this at least eight weeks to see if you are going to respond well. Some would probably say longer, but I guess my thinking is that just as not everyone will respond to low-fat, not everyone will respond to low-carb. Just my opinion. And if it's not working after that long, if you are REALLY working it, then maybe it's not for you. Good luck, and give it a good fighting chance! It has really really worked for me. Guest guest
As usual, I couldn't've said it better myself, Terry! I personally feel that the interchange we experience on this list is critical to our " survival " as Atkids. While I don't agree with everything that every person says on this list, I'm ALWAYS learning something from these debates. Understanding the opposite point of view helps me with my own ideas; through better understanding of differing views, I can solidify my own beliefs and knowledge. In no way was I personally attacking KC or anyone else here. I was simply trying to share the benefits of my experience thus far. If that stepped on some people's toes, I'm sorry. But I won't take it back. Part of what I value about this list is our ability to exchange information and ideas and grow as people. Holding back " opinions " won't help that to happen. And Terry, you're right. There are a lot of us that would JUMP at the chance to support someone who's having a rough time. After all, we've all been there at one point or another, some of us more frequently than others. And like you, I feel that support has nothing to do with the exchange of differing opinions. It's too bad that some have mistaken the two as one in the same. KC, I hope you'll stay. You'll continue to see differing opinions here, but you'll ALWAYS get support and great information as well. -- in Indy (262.5)253.5/229/150 3/26/
Guest guest
I guess the real confusion is what you mean by fairly quickly...and save the condescension; I can read just fine. I stick by the book's prediction of average 1-2 lbs/week for women [after induction]. To get it higher, you have to work the food plan even harder...and probably add exercise. I really posted to counter the 'if it's not the magic bullet, I'm not gonna work for it attitude'. People drop off Atkins and come back because even with all its faults, it works better than most of the alternatives. HJ ----- Original Message ----- > Ok, you obviously are not reading my posts. Guest guest
KC, I know how descouraging it is when it seems like everyone else is losing but you. I am a VERY slow loser. I have been lcing since 1/1/00 and had only lost 21 lbs but I have lost alot of inches. I have gone from a size 18 to a size 14. I cheated for a couple of weeks and gained back 9 1/2 lbs. Now I am struggleing to get them back off . It is a struggle but I am NOT going to give up because I am not just doing this for the weight loss, I am also doing it for my health and the great way I feel on the atkins diet.I am 54 years old and I feel great. My daughter says she can't beleive all the energy I have. So I guess theres more to this way of eating that losing weight. I hope you stay on this list KC so that we can help you along the way. I know its not easy but nothing worth having is easy. Wishing you the best KC. Laverne

I plan to stay on the induction diet until I drop alot of weight. Surprise! I exercise twice a day every day. If I only .5lbs every week, then I would do just the same on a low fat diet. > I really posted to counter the 'if it's not the > magic bullet, I'm not gonna > work for it attitude'.
