Thank you, Liz >> hi liz, and welcome to WLS central. you're very fortunate to have had your surgery date come so quickly. many struggle for months with doctors and insurance companies while their health rapidly deteriorates. as you skim through the posts here you'll read about many success stories and renewed lives, but you'll also read of some of the down sides. we all go in knowing there are possibilities of complications, as this is major abdominal surgery, but the alternatives are so much worse. so we roll the dice trusting our physicians and most times lady luck gives us a kiss. the DS is nothing short of a miracle. years of poor eating habits are nearly impossible to break ( or else we wouldn't be here, right?? ) and the DS allows you the most freedom, being mindful of limiting your carbs and sugars, and allows you to eat and enjoy as before, but with much less capacity. DON " T BE SCARED.......pain is minimal, and recovery is usually quick and uneventful. the hard part is learning how and what to eat, as your tastes will most likely change and some foods will leave you as fast as they arrived. elimination will become a priority and the commode will have a short reign in ruling your world......all temporary discomforts, or maybe not.......we all react differently. i've had no pain, no vomiting, no real nausea, no complications....and i wish the same for you. any questions, any time, just ask....sea ya joe d i'd rather be fishing BPD/DS 5/15/00 dr.macura..staten island univ. hosp 338....233 #
Guest guest
Hi Joe, Thank you for taking the time to respond, I've been reading a lot. Yes, I can see that getting DS date was done rather quickly, thanks to my Drs. I really appreciate the encouragement. I hope to take advantage of your offer to contact you. Ups and downs, are just part of life, right. I just thank God I still have the chance to continue the ride. After having heart surgery.... I've been walking on egg shells. I'm praying that the DS is giving me a chance to smooth the walk. Again, thank you. Liz
