Guest guest
Just found this: " Peanuts contains goitrogens, naturally-occurring substances in certain foods that can interfere with the functioning of the thyroid gland. " http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.jsp?requ estURI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/hypothyroidism.jsp http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice & dbid=101 Almost instant response to goitrophens? I was feeling decent today - fair amount of energy despite not sleeping enough for past few nights, no blatant hypoT symptoms like hypo headache, muscle aches, brain fog or sore neck. At 3PM I needed a snack so I ate several handfuls of mixed nuts, raisins and a few M & Ms (trail-mix like snack) - mostly peanuts though. At 4:30 I took my third dose of 5mg of HC and ate some more nuts to have something in my stomach and walked out of the office with decent energy. Within 30 minutes, I was tired, hypo headache, left arm and hand aching, sides of neck hurting - all symptoms that I now associate with being very hypoT. Is it possible that eating too many peanuts today do that? I also had a Luna bar earlier in the day and the protein source in those is soy which is also goitrophenic (sp?)? I had an argument with my wife and MIL the nutritionist over Thanksgiving over how much of such foods one would have to eat before it makes a difference. Their opinion is that it would take eating a bucket full of tofu or similar to have an effect. After today I don't know.
Guest guest
Yeah, I'm still not recovered from that assault. No more peanuts for me. > > Just found this: > " Peanuts contains goitrogens, naturally-occurring substances in certain > foods that can interfere with the functioning of the thyroid gland. Guest guest
One more question about goitrogens (think that I have that spelled correctly now). I take 1000mg of flax seed oil 2x/day to get my omega-3s. I see that some believe flax seeds to be goitrogenic, but that the oil might not be? Do I need to stop with the flax seed oil too? Thanks,
Guest guest
The " omega 3s " in plant oils are NOT actually omega 3 until converted in the body. Many people do not make this conversion, and in any case I've read it is inefficient at best in everyone. The plant sources of " omega 3 " also contain a lot of omega 6, which most of us do not need any more of. Consider trying a fish oil omega 3 instead. I'm allergic to those, but I have found I can take a molecularly distilled fish oil omega 3 supplement if I keep my intake of other iodine containing foods very low. I take an extra antihistamine if I need it. I think the omega 3 is important enough to be worth an extra antihistamine. sol jasrich wrote: > One more question about goitrogens (think that I have that spelled > correctly now). Guest guest
I had taken quite large amounts of flax oil in the past and now i can not tolerate omega-3 s. I also have developed some neurological problems after taking flax for long term.(did not take cottage cheese with it. I don't know if that wa sthe problem) I am not exactly sure if it caused it but i suggest not to take too much of it. bw Nil Re: Re: JASON...Almost instant response to goitrophens?
