Guest guest
Good morning Rita, Being stressed and fatigued are soooo hard to control in our daily lives. We really need to listen to our bodies when they say enough is enough. Yesterday I was extremely tired after helping my dog Missy deliver 7 puppies. I double dosed on my provigil to help me threw the day. Well I got the energy I needed to get things done and really over did it. I should have just gone back to bed like my body was telling me too. I'm not one to let things go. All my docs tell me I really need to pace myself ( I hate that word). When I over do myself I get really light headed too, even to the point of almost passing out, which I did once and hit my head on the bricks of my fire place. When I get that bad I really do listen to my body, because it scares the heck out of my hubby and kids. I hope you have a better day today, and please try the R & R approach. I am very happy your friend is doing better, I am sorry I didnt send him a card, I deleted the message accidently before I wrote the address. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Sandy Stress and fatigue Hi All: I usually don't have to much to offer regarding PLS, but I do want to share the following with all of you. As most of you know I have had PLS for probably 35 years, only diagnosed in 1986. I have learned how to control it, by not over doing and trying to omit stress. Well this week has been really bad for me. I have been extremely busy and I should listen to the old body to slow down, but there are times when we don't. I had the stress of one of my best friends, having a heart attack (and thanks all of you who sent him cards, made him really perk up). Well yesterday (Friday) I didn't feel all that great, but kept on plugging along, and last night after supper I started to feel light headed, super tired, just plain out of it. I laid down at 6:00 PM, woke up at 9 with a severe headache. During the night my legs started to cramp up, had severe spasticity in both legs and arms, could imagine what was going on. Then I realize I had missed two of my Baclofan doses. I take it 3 times a day. I had slept right thru till 9:00am. Poor , he was so worried. I am feeling a little better this morning, but have a long way to go, so it's all R & R today. So I just wanted to share this all with you. The funny part of the whole thing, is Thursday I went to the doctor's (my family doctor) to get the results of an army of tests I had, and he said I was really doing well, and he was very pleased!!!! My fried Jimmy is doing better, but he has a long road ahead of him, but thanks again for the cards. God Bless! Guest guest
Hi my name is June and my husband Charlie Gray has a prescription of Baclofen, but doesn't take it regularly and his legs are always in spasms or jumping certain times so should he stay on Baclofen 3 x a day????? He takes Mirapex, vicodan, valium as needed. Thanks, June
Guest guest
Hi Rita: Sorry to hear you weren't well but it sounds like it might have been compounded by your missing your Baclofen. Glad to hear you are feeling some better and also glad to hear Jimmy is making some progress. Take care my friend and take it easy for a few days. Jo. Guest guest
---Rita, I am so glad you are feeling better. I too have been busy and started feeling bad legs hurting just like you, then I discover that I haden't taken a baclofen. I don't think I ever forgot two. That would have been the pits, like you described. Guest guest
How true this is. As most of you know I went to court Tues. I was intending to separate from my husband of 32 years. I chickened out because I have progressed so fast lately. I settled for a will leaving my half of everything to my children. Lee can live in the house until he dies or buys out our childrens half. I am, at least, half-way at peace now. Anyway, the next day I fell flat on my face. I almost knocked out my front tooth but the dentist twisted it back into place. We will wait and see if I need a root canal later. The tooth beside of it will need to be rebuilt (if I can keep it). I blacked out several times as I craweled to the phone. Lee was home in no time and was visibly very upset. The dentist will work on my tooth Wed. in the meantime he put me on dexamethasone (anti-inflammatory drug) and clindamycine (used for serious infections). Please pray for me that I might keep my teeth and my will will work out like I want it to. I have a black chin that looks like a beard and a big lip but other than that I'm fine. Be careful and don't get stressed. It's not worth it and besides I want us to all be able to have one last get together. I want it to be a dance that we can all participate in. Just keep Ronnie away from me. and Mike ... you can keep the first place spot, I don't want to participate in any more falls. Guest guest
June: I am no doctor, but I can tell you that I have been on Baclofan since 1986, and have forgot to take (1) on occasion, but never (2). I will never ever do that again. I always listen to my doctor, and that's how I make my decision. Guest guest
Rita, thanks for the e-mail - I will have my husband take his Baclofen and I will get in touch with Dr. Greer at Shands and see how often for him to take it. He takes so much at night to help him sleep that I worry about him falling when he has to get up - get in wheelchair and walk the rails in our hallway to get his legs to stop jumping so we will try the Baclofen. Guest guest
Hi June, I myself find that if I miss a dose of my Baclofen I have real good spasms. I am on 10mg in a.m 1 at noon 1 dinner time and 40mg at bed time. I dont take any of the other meds that you mentioned so I cant help you there. If your hubby Charlie is just forgetting to take his meds, they do make timers to remind people to take them, I beleive I saw it at our Walmart pharmacy. What does his doctor say? June I would like to welcome you to this wonderful group of friends, please feel free to ask any questions and we will try to help as much as we possibly can. Guest guest
Hi Donna: Am so sorry to hear about your falling and loosening your tooth. Hopefully it can be fixed. Am also sorry to hear of the stressful situation you are in as I for one am aware of what stress can do to one's health. All we can do is try not to let the stress get to us but that isn't always possible. My thoughts are with you and MAY WE ALL DANCE SOON. My goal is to one of these days attend a Conference or Connection. The stress of this disease would be much harder to deal with if it wasn't for this wonderful group and it would be great to meet some of you in person. Of course that will have to wait until DALE IS BACK ON HIS FEET! Take care Donna. Jo. Re: Stress and fatigue > How true this is. As most of you know I went to court Tues. Guest guest
Hi June, Welcome to the PLS group. I have found some of the most wonderful people I have ever known here. I know you will soon learn them all because they will jump in there to extend a hand to you. You said Charlie didn't take his baclofen like he should. The medicine is to help with the spasms. You need to read Rita's post (a page back) on what happened to her when she missed taking her baclofen. Guest guest
Hi June Being a 'retired' pharmaceutical rep I can field that question. Whether we take baclofen or Zanaflex we must take it continuously. The actual desired effect doesn't start until the body is used to a given amount in the blood stream. That is also when you start tolerating the sleepiness better. If I am even 1 hour off 'pill time' my speech gets slurry and restricted and my left leg stiffens. If I forget the nighttime dose my legs are kicking all over the bed with automatic reflex activation and spasms as well. Hope that helps Eva in WV > Hi my name is June and my husband Charlie Gray has a prescription of > Baclofen, but doesn't take it regularly and his legs are always in spasms or jumping > certain times so should he stay on Baclofen 3 x a day????? Guest guest
Rita, no but thank you, he is a retired Bureau Chief for the State of Florida and is one of the most knowledgeable " person " I have ever known that knows so much about the laws of insurance and all about insurance. He still is able to be a consultant for a client in New York at this time which I am glad he is involved or occupied with. He served the State of Florida Insurance Dept. for 35 years and served under 8 Insurance Commissioners but anyway we are just taking each day as it comes. He played Football and Baseball with some of the great pro's such as Yale Lary, Haywood Sullivan, Bubba McGowan and others so he has had some fun, so let us all just keep on keeping on and Rita and others I hope that a miracle will happen for all of ya'll. Guest guest
Hi Donna, Very sorry to hear how your marriage ended up. Don't know how much was due to the PLS but that certainly puts a big strain on most marriages. Falls can be a real pain (literally and figuratively). I certainly hope that your teeth can be saved without a lot of drama and wish you all the best. rosestone3 wrote: > How true this is. As most of you know I went to court Tues. Guest guest
Mrs. Gray, I too have PLS and have tried baclofen but zNflex seemed to work better for me. However, I also taks klonipin, prozac and a few others for allergy, etc. I responded to this directly to you, but maybe it didn't make it. In reading your other postings, sounds like Mr Gray goes through the same challenges as I do. My poor ole wife, Shirlon, probably wants to give up on me sometimes, but she's a trooper and hangs in there. We too retired from the State, I, from the Game and Fish and her, Dept. of Highway Safety. I worked with, and knew, many of your co-workers, Ed , Vic Cullars, Bill Barker and others. I almost came over to FDLE in about 1995 or 1996 or so, but backed out. I was gonna take a job in communications when Jimmie retired. We would love to meet up with you folks someday, maybe in Tally. We still go to our Doctor's there, even though we live in Chipley now. We moved here because my Daughter lives here and her Son (my main man) has Muscular Dystrophy. She had two but we lost the oldest two years ago this month. He too had MD. Anyway, hope none of my responses are offensive. I really am clutching to hope as many of us are. I read most all posts, but respond little. I need to get more active I suppose. I'll stop for now. Please say hello to Mr. Charlie for me and perhaps we can email also. Thanks Meacham-Chipley, Fl Oh yes, I'm 61 and Shirlon is 63 Re: Stress and fatigue Hi my name is June and my husband Charlie Gray has a prescription of Baclofen, but doesn't take it regularly and his legs are always in spasms or jumping certain times so should he stay on Baclofen 3 x a day?????
