Take the test. You probably have the recurring sore throats because you are

low on cortisol to begin with. I finally have figure out when my throat

issues are thyroid and when adrenal. I had one a few weeks ago, increased my

Isocort by 5 mg and it was gone the next day.

ok,,,I just recieved my kit today but have a bit of a dilemna. I

just developed a sore throat starting last night. it seems I get them

for 2 weeks,,,then they disappear for a few days and come right back.

I really cant afford to wait days or weeks for it to go away. would

this sore throat really affect the cortisol results?? Im sure hoping

not

ok,,cool. I have just one more question. Ive been taking licorice

root up until 4 days ago. this wouldnt affect my cortisol test would

it? I didnt think anything of it until I saw an earlier post stating

that it shouldnt be taken on the day of a test. I thought it was

only hc and isocort that couldnt be taken <2 weeks before test.

thanks for replies

Well, it would affect aldosterone tests but I am not sure about cortisol.

You have been off if for a few days so I think you would be fine. I would

still note it on the lab sheet...the last time you took it and the dosage.

Copied from an earlier post from Val:

Pre-adrenal testing for at least two weeks you should stop:

Licorice root

Isocort

HC

Adrenal glandulars

Ashwagandha

Ginseng

The last two just to be safe!

, it's your money, your decision, and your state of health. I

think if you test before two weeks, the cortisol will show higher

than it is in actuality, which may affect your treatment plan.

However, given that you're already anxious, you may want to go ahead

anyway. Or you could wait for Val's answer in the morning. She does

get up at the crack of dawn, well before I would do any cortisol labs!

Ah well that helps to explain my last results which showed high 8am &

4pm cortisol even though I definitely AF. I hadn't taken Isocort or

glandulars on the day of the test or the day before, but they still

showed high. Didn't realise I needed to keep off them for two weeks.

But what I don't understand is this. Surely the useful result is

what our levels are & how we feel on our normal doses. What use is

it finding out what our levels are in the absence of meds/supplements?

It MIGHT. I think for truly accurate testign you should be off all adrenal

supplements for 2 weeks.

It takes 2 weeks for the adrneals to come back to their own normal produciton

after stopping any supplement that changes cortisol levels. If it were me,I

would wait to test.

doESN;T WORK THAT WAY. It is sort of liek testing T3 when you just took Armoru.

It hits the system MUCH differently than our own would and trying to time the

saliva draw to match when you took it is unrealistic. It also supresses your

ACTH somewhat so you do nto get a true picture of what your adrenals CAN do.

ok,,,one last question on this saliva test issue. Im taking the

antidepressant effexor 75mg. I didnt think this could be an issue

until I saw it listed on the lab form. is this going to also throw the

results off? I am trying to ween off,,,but its difficult and will take

at least another month. I hope I can still take it?
