Guest guest
Yes. Peanuts are on my avoid list. For one thing, they are highly susceptible to mold. For another, a lot of hypo people cannot tolerate them. Almonds and walnuts from good sources are better alternatives. Unfortunately, most mixes have peanuts which is why I make my own. Cheri Almost instant response to goitrophens? I was feeling decent today - fair amount of energy despite not sleeping enough for past few nights, no blatant hypoT symptoms like hypo headache, muscle aches, brain fog or sore neck. At 3PM I needed a snack so I ate several handfuls of mixed nuts, raisins and a few M & Ms (trail-mix like snack) - mostly peanuts though. At 4:30 I took my third dose of 5mg of HC and ate some more nuts to have something in my stomach and walked out of the office with decent energy. Within 30 minutes, I was tired, hypo headache, left arm and hand aching, sides of neck hurting - all symptoms that I now associate with being very hypoT. Is it possible that eating too many peanuts today do that? I also had a Luna bar earlier in the day and the protein source in those is soy which is also goitrophenic (sp?)? I had an argument with my wife and MIL the nutritionist over Thanksgiving over how much of such foods one would have to eat before it makes a difference. Their opinion is that it would take eating a bucket full of tofu or similar to have an effect. After today I don't know.
Guest guest
Oh, and yes, soy in the those food bars can be potent. I would avoid that. There are tons like Lara bars that do not have soy. Cheri Almost instant response to goitrophens? Guest guest
I read once somewhere that a person stopped a hyperthyroid episode by eating raw cabbage. sol jasrich wrote: > Is it possible that eating too many peanuts today do that? Guest guest
, Tell them that may very well be true for a healthy person without thyroid and adrenal problems. However for us it is best to abstain from all of these items until we are stable on medication and doing well. Then you many be able to add a few things that you really miss several times a week. If the item is cooked it is said to have less effect. Personally for now all of those items are off my list as feel it is not in my best interest to consume foods that are counterproductive to my increasing Armour thus achieving a semblance of feeling well. Guest guest
Have your wife and MIL read " The Magic Bean " by Dr. Tim O'Shea. http://thedoctorwithin.com/index_fr.php?page=articles/magic_bean.php Linn > > >> Their > opinion is that it would take eating a bucket full of tofu or similar > to have an effect. Guest guest
Well, I proved it yesterday and my wife pointed out that the nuts weren't cooked like veggies and tofu would be and that each of them have water content that the nuts don't. It was really my MIL who I think was taken aback when I declined to eat tofu as part of a meal and pointed out that I needed to watch how much soy I eat and that she cooks with a lot of it already (Taiwanese). She then went for a walk with two dietician friends and they had a good laugh about how much tofu I would need to eat for it to have that kind of effect. I'll do what I need to do now. Unfortunately I have a huge stock of Luna bars that I bought b/c they're gluten free, and they're tasty, but the protein source is soy. Now I need to look at Lara bars which I have had before and they tasted like tar. > > , > > Tell them that may very well be true for a healthy person > without thyroid and adrenal problems. Guest guest
I agree some of the Larabars taste like tar. But some are very good. The Lemon Pie ones are my favorite, with the Jocolat (chocolate-orange) coming in second. I have an aquaintance here who likes the ginger ones. You can get them from iherb, etc. I can't find these flavors locally at all. They are high carb/high sugar though, so I limit them. A good emergency food to carry with you though, and I find half a bar is a good dessert replacement. I also carry pepperoni chips, and string cheese when I go shopping etc. I know you can't have the cheese, but you might see if you can find a pepperoni you can have. I crisp them in the microwave on a paper towels, store in fridge, take a small snack bag of them with me for emergencies. I do the same with salami. I don't know if you can find either one totally milk free though. sol jasrich wrote: > Now I need to look at Lara bars which I have > had before and they tasted like tar. > >
Guest guest
Lol. I LOVE the lemon ones. My favorite too. There are other companies that make non-soy, non-peanut ones but I like Lara because they use the least amount of ingredients. I also like their nut ones. They aren't really protein bars though. It's hard to find a good tasting, good-for-you protein bar. Guest guest
, Look into the Jay Robb protein bars. They are whey protein and taste very good. K
Guest guest
I'll check out those flavors. I can eat cheese, just in moderation. The digestive enzymes have been working wonders with my GI - and maybe getting the Armour up closer to therapeutic is helping too. Thanks Sol. > > Now I need to look at Lara bars which I have > > had before and they tasted like tar. > > > > >
Guest guest
Will do, I need the protein more than the sugar. > > , > > Look into the Jay Robb protein bars. They are whey protein and taste > very good. > > K >
Guest guest
, I'm always on the look-out for soy-free " energy bars " . They're not too easy to find. I love Lara bars - soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, kosher, etc. etc!! Which one did you have that tasted like tar?? The chocolate-coconut? My favorite is Cashew Cookie - tastes nothing like tar Do you have a Trader Joe's or Costco near you? They have Lara bars at very reasonable prices. BTW, Clif Nectar bars are soy, wheat, gluten and dairy-free also... Guest guest
Hi Kirsten, I forget what flavor I had, but I'm spoiled from those yummy Luna bars that I can't eat too many of any more like everything else. We have an Earthfare near by so we'll check out their stock of Lara and Clif bars. Thanks, > > , > I'm always on the look-out for soy-free " energy bars " . They're not > too easy to find.
