Guest guest
>What is it? Why do we need it? >>>> Boron plays a major role in calcium and magnesium metabolism. It is an important nutrient in maintaining healthy bone and joint function. Fruits and veggies are the main source of boron. Interestingly, a diet rich in fruits and veggies offers significant protection against osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Fewer than 10% of americans meet the dietary guidelines for fruits and veggies though, the bottom line is that most americans are not getting enough boron. Boron deficiency is associated with an increased risk for postmenopausal bone loss, depressed serum concentrations of estrogen and testosterone and increased urinary excretion of calcium and magnesium. Boron is necessary for the action of Vit. D in the absorption and utilization of calcium in our bodies. Evidence indicates that boron is essential in the conversion of vit. D to its active form. Boron in the form of sodium borate or boron chelates are suitable, but not sodium tetraborate decahydrate for the prevention of osteoporosis and general health. Supplementing the diet with 3-9mg. of boron daily is indicated. There are no known interactions with boron and any other nutrient or drug.
