Hello everyone,

I am new to this group and have a 4yr old apraxic son who started

in EI and then went into to the public school system for ST.

Recently we had him evaluated by a private SLP to find out his

current status --just for an outsider's opinion. He was

once " moderate " and he is now " mild to moderate " . We work hard and

I feel he makes such tremendous gains all by himself. Today he

said " watch this mommy " as he held a snack to his upper lip and

tried to reach it with his tongue (which he cannot do). He is such

an angel and so self confident that I'm sure I have done some things

right. However, my problem is that I don't know much about what

causes this condition. I assume there are no definitive answers to

that and I know that it doesn't really matter ...but I still have

this need to know what caused this to happen to my beautiful boy and

what part I may have played in that. Not extreme or anything but I

drank alcohol and dieted somewhat excessively before I knew I was

pregnant. Even after I knew I was pregnant I worked very long hours

in a high stress career. He was small for gestational age throughout

my pregnancy to the point of bedrest for the last few weeks. Prior

to being put on bedrest-- but late in my pregnancy --my large

(300+lbs) brother jokingly sat on my stomach hard not thinking about

what the was doing (like he would've when we were teens). Are any

of those the reason? It seems like something traumatic must have

happened based on things I've read. Are there connections between

small for gestational age and apraxia? Doctors have always been very

noncommittal. By the way we have started on EFAs and I really like

this group I just didn't know if anyone had any thoughts or info.

Thanks I know this is a bit scattered.
