Guest guest
To all who take daily meddies for one condition or another: I know I repeat myself, so forgive me, but here is my 12 cents worth: have mercy on your precious body. If it cannot make the minute chemicals needed to keep one in the mood state that is so-called " normal " --know that it has tried as best it can. (some of us will never be normal no matter what--but we are talking medicine here, not cultural conformity--smile) Just as we give our bodies food and light each day, (yes, you are to stand out in the sunlight, or walk or run in sunlight for at least ten minutes each day; this stimulates the thymus and the pituitary glands to secrete their valuable--like gold---hormones. We are more like plants than we think--grin, and if you live in a rainforest, use a grow-light, at least until you sprout.) As you give your body nourishment, try to think the same way about medicine. You have to wash your body daily, you have to nourish your body daily. Taking medicines such as these are part of that routine of self-care. They are part of the basic offerings you give to the body in order to show your love of the friend who takes you everywhere and does so much for you without your bidding. I take synthroid every day (no thyroid function). Sometimes it is a pain to remember. But, I would be far less able without it. I have the regular blood tests to see if the dosage is right (it is) and this is a drag too to have to go cross-town to the lab, sit there with 400 other people, all of whom always have infectious diseases) and wait til they call my numner-- but I do it. For who? For she who cannot live without me. There is a syndome regarding daily meds, whether they are for blood pressure, anxiety, diabetes, blood strength or else. Sometimes people stop taking their meds. It is called non-compliance which is, I have always thought, too harsh and paternalistic a word for it. But, the way it works is that the person psychically wants to be whole all by themselves --this is a good thing not a bad thing. But, sometimes they become frustrated with dosages or the docs or the results seem slim versus the side effects. So they sometimes toy with their meds just to see if they can be alright without them. Usually they must return to them, and rapidly, or to an alternative dosage or meddie, for the body needs what it needs. If it could make it by itself it would. No one would deny water to a beautiful flower. No one would take a lovely green plant and stick it in a dark closet. yes, we would do all we can to bring the most vibrant life forward as possible. In psch as in medicine, it is always weighed as " risk versus benefit " . Will the risks of taking a meddie be less, hopefully far less, than the beneifts of this medicine for the soul who is taking it? This is the main question. I think we can consider having to take meds daily the same way we consider prayer or love--- as a way of loving and caring for the dear body--given only one is given to a person, at least in this lifetime. (smile) This comes with much love and peace for the bodies of us all, ceep >I am on Effexor and Xanax and can now sleep, depression is > finally lifting and I was knocked back on my heels by a tentative > diagnosis of bi-polar type II on my last visit. > > Doing some research and reading,,,,I am taken aback ,,,,,,it is > me,,,,it is a me I could never see and understand over all these > decades but yet it is a mixed message. Relief at finally getting > some understanding and some hope in medication,,,yet not thrilled at > knowing that the meds are for a lifetime.
