Guest guest
Well, Hil hit most of it on the head. Part of it is basically overconfidence. You've had the honeymoon, you could do a little sugar here, a little there. You still lost wt. There didn't seem to be much penalty. You could drink with meals, graze, still lose wt. You stabilize. You can still " get away with it " , because you are no longer losing, so the fact that you are now stable convinces you that you are fine. You are " immune " . Then it starts. 2#. Nah, it's water. 4#. Maybe you CAN'T do 6 cookies in a day, maybe just 4. 5#. Five WHOLE lbs. Maybe better knock off the grazing and get back to 5 tiny meals. 7#. WHAT THE????????? And so it goes. Then, naturally, from my point of view, there is the nutritional aspect of things. Your labs are " fine " . How fine? Fine compared to what? How fine IS fine? Fine by whose point of view? So, I stick with my original premise. Get pre-op labs, compare the 8 basic elements from each subsequent labs to your post-op. If you are any LESS in any element than you were pre-op, you are NOT getting enough of it in. Except, we know calcium in blood means nothing. Part of the fallacy is that you can get the same amount of nutrition out of 10% or 50% of your food as you did pre-op, with no malabsorption and full capacity. So, it sets you up for shortages. As long as your labs do not fall substantially out of range, no one will notice. EXCEPT YOU. Even people with only a very tiny bypass, who have focused on protein foods and bars will often fall way down to the bottom ranges of normal. But only you will actually see the fall and you have to be paying attention. And then take corrective action. With supplements and not try to make up the shortfall with the foods that already are not doing the job.
