Gail,

Good day.

I did a search of Un. of Va. It is a highly regarded medical school. Ranked #

25 in the US. The Medical Center did not turn up in US News & World Reports

Top hospitals in heart research etc. Dr. Mangram also didn't turn up anywhere.

The Atrial Fibrillation suggests that the more experienced the doctor is on

PVA's the better off you will be. Theysuggest that a minimum of 100 PVA's per

year would be considered experienced for an EP. That's not for the hospital,

but the Doctor actually doing the ablation.

What prevents a hospital being a major heart center, or in our case a major

AF center, is not having the experienced personnel and cutting edge equipment

and being an active cutting edge research center.

Not everyone wants to be a major heart center. Many hospitals choose other

specialties. Cancer, Kidney's, Liver,or other area's.

You do have several major heart hospitals in and around Virgina and

Washington DC. Your also close enough to go to Duke, Un. NC Chapel Hill and

s

Hopkins. So you have a lot to choose from.

Go to www.usnewsandworldreports.com and select top hospitals and the click on

heart. Go through the list and not all the choices you have.

Good luck.

Gail, For the US News and World Reports information, go to key word " Top

Hospitals in the US. Click on the listing and you will be there directly. The

other address I gave you is a pain.

I would like to know if anyone has information on the Universty of

Virginia A-Fib Clinc. I have an appt. Jan. 24 with Dr.

Mangram. Can we ask questions on this site about specific

cardiologists and/or hospitals?. U.VA performed 100 cardiac

ablations to eliminate A-fb in 2003. I have heard so much about The

Cleveland Clinic but nothing about U.VA. Any information appreciated.

Thanks for all the information. It's Dr. Mangrum, not Mangram, my

mistake. Gail
