Guest guest
Hi I an new to the group. I am 49 yo and have been having atrial fibrillation off and on for a number of years. I have usually controlled it through diet and moderate exercise and taking a magnesium supplement. These past two weeks have been in and out of AV, going from the fast heartbeat, then into fluttering, quivering. I have not been able to do much, and was very scared the last few days. I spent all day today in the ER. My heart doctor came downstair to see me, and they set me up with a holter monitor (now, that is the true miracle cure, because once you put this on, the palpitations seem to vanish!) He also sent me home with a prescription for Toprol XL. 50 mg. I quetioned him about this, since, when my heart is in normal rythm, is goes slow at night, maybe around 50 beats Anyone out there that can offer help, I would truly appreciate any insight, because I am scared to death at this point. I am afraid that the Toprol will slow my heart and it will stop at night. I think the Toprol may help though, because when I am in AF, I kind of feel like the adrenaline in my system is just rushing non-stop, this drug will block the action of the adrenaline. Anyone out there please offer any advice if they have been taking this drug, such as side effects, any drug interactions, etcs. I do not have high blood pressure, its runs sometimes very low....is it dangerous to take this drug, since it lowers blood pressure? Sorry to ramble on, but, I feel so scared and frustrated! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Laurel
