Guest guest
, Our daughter with CF was behind on crawling...right after her first birthday, we finally got her to crawl. She was behind in almost everything as she wasn't diagnosed until she was 18 mo. old so she was very small, sick and malnourished. She got on a program that was called birth to 3 and we got help to cover the cost of this program...she received physical, occupational and speech therapy until she turned 3. This helped us tremendously, and she is now caught up with the kids her age, and is doing great...she is very active, and can roller blade, ride a bike, swim, run, talks just fine, and everything. So, don't get too discouraged. -mom of 4, one with CF, (7.5 yrs.) and #5 due in July with poss. CF
Guest guest
Hi there. I think that we used to wonder/worry alot about developmental milestones.... and remember that later, after was diagnosed with CF we wondered if the CF was why he was a late walker (18 months, perhaps 19 months). But, after having five biological children, in retrospect, each kiddo just does things in their own timeframe. ph, our youngest, did not walk at all until he was 21 months, and did not really fully walk til 22 months, but was running well by 23 months. He also did not crawl until he was at least a year old. We did worry at one point about possible developmental delays, but mostly because he was doing this back arching thing constantly, and that can be indicative of problems. To see him now, (he just turned two) you would have no idea that he was a late walker, its like all of a sudden, everything clicked into place for him and he became a walking talking machine, lol. Mallory was about 17 months when she walked, but we were not worried at all at the time, because she did spend so much time being held and carried and spent alot of that winter in the hospital or really sick with something or another. So is it CF related? I have no idea...our first born, Miranda walked at about 15 months, and our 6 yo was actually 13 months when he walked, and he is the only of our biological children to have any developmental issues or hint of developmental delays (go figure!) The experts/and books would say not to worry about walking at least til they are 15 momths old. Also, is there an adjustment to make? Was your baby early at all? We were also told to account for that. was a 33 weeker, so you can subtract those seven weeks, for example, when calculating age for expected developmental milestones. ph, according to the OB's dates (by ultrasound.....) was 31 and a half weeks, but with 7 kids, we know when we got pregnant, lol.....or we think we know anyway, and our dates would put it more like 33 weeks. Both of them did act alot like preemies in their dev. milestones, even t hough they had no preemie related complications (I took prednisisone for positive anticardiolipen antibodies during pregnancy, which the docs said had the added benefit of helping their lungs develop early) Anyway, its hard if its your first baby not to worry and want to compare.....I do remember doing that with Miranda most especially. But they do all do it in their own time, and if there were any kind of dev. delays to worry about ,t hey would manifest in other ways that you would likely recognize....for example, they might either have hypotonia (loose flexible joints), or hypertonia or some kind of spasticity....if they had really stiff legs or joints then it warrants a visit and discussion to the doctor, for example. some kids just like being carried a little longer, lol....(we blamed ph's late walking on the fact that he did not need to walk, after all, he had big sisters and brothers who would carry him anywhere he wanted to go, lol) Take care and hope it all turns out ok. Guest guest
, I received your email it was very helpful i did put a call into a place called early interventions it's alot like the place you said about, do you think it's a good idea for them to help learn how to crawl and everything else that comes along with that?He is doing very well with his cf he was diagonsed when he was 2 weeks old it came back on his newborn screening, my first child was 10 months when he started crawling,he is 9 now and he does not have cf.This is the first case in either side of our familes. really acts like he want's to crawl but when you put him down he does push himself backwards, hopefuly that's the first step. well thanks for all the info talk again later Mom of 2 , one with cf,(11 months) Good luck with your new little one. Guest guest
Hi everyone! 's doctor appt went well. is nine months old now and wants no part of crawling. he hates being on his tummy, shoes on or off. I know to expect him to be delayed in crawling and walking but I'm getting a little antsy here. When did your children start to crawl? Thanks everyone! and
Guest guest
, Rose started crawling at about 6 months and crawls with her DBB on as well as off. BUT my niece who didn't have clubfoot, didn't crawl until she was over 9 months. I am sure when is ready, he will crawl. Also, some babies never crawl, they go from rolling to walking. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your advice! I know I am just worrying too much about it. had a neurosurgery recently as well so I know he will do things at his own pace, he has hada few different factors slowing him down. All of his other milestones have been right on time, and he even sat up on his own early as well. I just got myself riled up about this. Thanks again! and
