Sue, we " did " the tourist thing 1 year before Baby Tim. We did Sydney

(lovely), the Hunter Valley (Peppers Guest House was very cosy!), Port

s for whales (not seen), dolphins (gorgeous) and kookaburras and

koalas (really great - you know how most wildlife experiences are " quick,

quick, shhh, here, no, there, no oh heck it's gone " ? Well, with koalas

you've got time to go home to England for your camera - they sleep about 22

hrs a day!) and the Anchorage hotel was lovely, great pool; then we did two

camping trekking things, one to Uluru, Kata Tjuta and King's Canyon (Uluru

is indescribably awesome but King's Canyon was stunning) and one in Kakadu

National Park, where the wildlife was fantastic (saw our only possum here!)

and the freshwater swimming just out of this world (Twin Falls not to be

missed) and the aboriginal art very inspiring. Then we went to Cairns and

up to Cape Tribulation (Coconut Beach Rain Forest Resort is just amazing

too, sorry, gushy language but it was! orange footed scrub fowl outside our

villa and 5' long lace monitor by the pool and a TOTALLY deserted white

sanded beach with white tailed eagles flying overhead) and we had a guided

rainforest tour which was just wonderful, SUCH a great guide, and saw crocs

and fruit bats and lizards and a musky rat kangaroo and such amazing ancient

trees but no cassowaries sadly) and a trip out to the reef which was great

and oh you MUST do the tourist stuff!
