New Year's Resolutions

Well, here it is the evening of the first day of the new millennium! I have

been reading the paper, all the articles on resolutions, the " get fit " stuff

in the Lifestyle sections, all the ads touting exercise equipment and so on.

And I'm glad to say, for the second New Year in a row, NONE of my

resolutions have to do with exercise or losing weight. That's because after

I had WLS 17 months ago, I lost the weight, and exercise is now a routine

part of my life. No more making those kinds of resolutions....and failing to

keep them.....I can't tell you how good it feels to finally have that part

of my life under control! But then I guess I don't HAVE to tell you

all...you are experiencing the same thing first-hand! WOOHOO!!!

I did read this little ditty, and want to share it with you all:

" Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we

are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most

frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,

talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of

God. " - Mandela

Isn't that incredible? So, my resolution for this year is not to be afraid

of my Light.

God's blessings on each of you as this new millennium begins!!

Greetings Grads,

Happy New Year to all.

I loved the Mandela quote. Thanks Kathy.

Here's a funny piece from another list. I don't think Jewish dieters are

alone here - especially with the apparent stress and pressure we all feel to

make New Year's resolutions about our diets!

140 lbs. gone, hopefully forever!

The Jewish Stress Diet

This diet has been specially designed to help you cope with the

stress that builds up during the hectic business day, or preparation

and undertaking of a simcha, or the inability to find the best china

when company calls, or when you just plain have had enough of

those nudniks...

* BREAKFAST:

* 1/2 Grapefruit

* 1 slice Wholemeal bread (dry)

* 8oz (500g) Skimmed Milk

* LUNCH:

* 4oz (250g) lean boiled chicken breast

* 4oz (250g) steamed spinach

* 1 cup of herb tea (no sugar)

* 1 chocolate digestive biscuit

* MID-AFTERNOON SNACK:

* Rest of digestive packet & some butter kuchen

* 2 pints (it's a lot don't ask me for metric) of chocolate ice-cream

* 1 jar of Nutella or Selecta Raspberry Jam

* DINNER:

* 2 loaves of garlic bread

* 1 large deluxe pizza with olives

* 4 cans of coke (full fat)

* 3 Mars bars

* LATE EVENING SNACK (repeat as necessary):

* Entire frozen cheesecake (straight from freezer)

Rules for this diet

1. If you eat something and no-one sees it, it has no calories

2. If you drink a diet Coke with a Mars bar, the calories in the

Mars are cancelled out by the diet Coke

3. When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if they

eat more than you do

4. Cinema related foods, such as wine gums, popcorn, mints,

and chocolate, do not have additional calories because they are

part of the whole entertainment package

5. Things licked off spoons and knives have no calories if you're

in the process of preparing something

6. Foods that are the same colour have the same number of

calories: ie, spinach and pistachio ice-cream, mushrooms and

white chocolate. NB: Chocolate is a universal colour and can be

substituted for any other food colouring

7. Small foods have no calories, such as chocolate buttons or

chopped nuts dipped in chocolate

8. The same rule applies to foods that are wrapped up, such as toffee

sweets or slices of cheesecake

9. Foods that you get to eat on the way home from the

store - especially the bakery - don't count either].
