Hi ,

I am trying to process what you've stated below. How have you

determined or read that saliva shows tissue levels of hormones?

Thanks in advance,

Michigan

> Tests done from saliva show the tissue levels or what can get to

the cells, blood tests only tell what is available in the blood and

available to the tissues IF they can absorb it and use it. In cases

of low cortisol thyroid cann;t enter the cells withotu enough

cortisol so blood levels can be quite high looking really greta while

the tissue levels show the true picture of hypothyorid as that is

where thyroid does it's work.

From several sites when I looked it up. Saliva is produced in the salivary

glands from the surrounding tissues, not from the blood.

You didn't ask me but this is something I have dealt with over the past 7

years. In general, saliva is what is happening in the cells. Saliva is

filled with what the cells process and it is a current reading. Blood is

what is circulating, not what is actively being processed in the cells. For

example, I have problems converting T4 to T3. My blood will show my levels

fine, however, my CELLS which is where I need the T3 are not getting it

because the cell receptors are " blocked " by mercury. Saliva tests show me

low in T3... a better picture of what I already knew...the T3 is not getting

to my cells.

This is why we often can have dramatically different results in blood and

saliva tests. Blood is supposed to be better for some things, saliva for

others, hair is supposed to be best for testing toxins because it shows the

longest term cellular activity. It all depends on what you are really trying

to find out about your body. Most doctors do not understand this and what

blood will and will not tell you.

I am looking to understand it from a physiological view point.

I'd like to learn the path it takes in the body. It does make sense

but always thought, esp. for thyroid blood tests were better.

Is current thinking saliva is better for thyroid and adrenal

(adrenals I have used saliva) testing?

Tests done from saliva show the tissue levels or what can get to the

cells; blood tests only tell what is available in the blood and

available to the tissues IF they can absorb it and use it. In cases

of low cortisol, thyroid cannot enter the cells without enough

cortisol, so blood levels can be quite high, looking really great,

while the tissue levels show the true picture of hypothyorid, as that

is where thyroid does its work. (Val's words from an earlier post)

JUst do a Google search on Saliva Labs and accuracy or tissue levels I am at

work and dont; have time to go looking for the info but thta is how i find

information when I need a fact.

If you check websites of the labs that perform the tests, most will have a

professional explanation of what each tests tells. I know Doctors Data for

example has good explanations on adrenals and you can check Diagnos Tech for

the Canary Club tests. I am sure they explain it better than me. :)

Also, Dr. Cutler wrote extensively on which tests tell what so you

can Google him too.

Sorry, didn't mean to put the burden on you. Just thought maybe you had some

definitive research I could look at.
