Guest guest
IMHO, your TSH is too high, and your FT4 and FT3 are far too low. TSH should be below 1.0 and FT4 and FT3 should be high in the range - FT3 can even be over ! Mine is. Guest guest
Hi Gwen, Why did adding Cytamel not work for you ? Have you tried Armour? A lot of people don't do well on T4 only meds.Have you read the web page ? Jane > > IMHO, your TSH is too high, and your FT4 and FT3 are far too low. Guest guest
Hi I did try Armour with no good results. My FT4 dropped like a rock and my FT3 was high. My neck swelled too. The neck swelling started as soon as I took my first Armour pill. I'm sensitive to meds and their fillers. An example for instance. I cannot take the Med Provera. Whatever the fillers are I get a bad rash. Things went strange with the Cytomel too. We tried a quarter of the lowest dose. So all of that is out. I know I can feel well on just the Synthroid because for 14 years I did. Something happened in 2002. I crashed and I have not fully recovered. It was like something changed in the meds. Its been a long road for me. Thanks for your response Gwen > > > > IMHO, your TSH is too high, and your FT4 and FT3 are far too low. > TSH should > > be below 1.0 and FT4 and FT3 should be high in the range - FT3 can > even be > > over ! Guest guest
Hi Gwen, Are you sure the rash was from the fillers? Have you checked your adrenal function? My hubbie started T3 meds 3 weeks ago, developed severe dermititis, hands swelled up, itching skin all over ...... and Dr immed put him on cortisone to boost his adrenal function. All under control now and he is still taking his Thyroid meds. Have you taken basal temps and through the day temps. Charted them ? Do they fluctuate ? Have you had Thyroid problems for a long time ? Guest guest
Hi Jane I have had Thyroid disease since 1988. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. My antibodies are very high again like they were in 1988. Wow back then I was hospitalized I was so sick. Funny thing even when they checked my Thyroid then which was the last thing they did before they were about to do exploritry surgery it checked out fine. If it was not for another doc that my parents called in they would have cut me open to find nothing wrong. This doc kept saying she has all the symptoms of it. Lets keep testing on a weekly basis and sure enough one blood test finally revealed a TSH of 95. So I'm an Old timer in regards to the disease but more of a newbie in the past 4 years of actually learning about it. My adrenal glands were checked out by only blood work and they were fine. I did take some supplements to help them as this whole crash went on. And yes I do beleive they were weak at the time of trying Cytomel and Armour. But I also have had other problems taking certain meds due to fillers and such. So much that one doc insisted the med was not the problem and he sent me to a dermatologist who then confirmed it was. So I have been this route. I have also tried all the other name brand thyroid meds and had problems with them. Synthroid seems to be the med that will work for my body. For 14 years I did great. No one even knew I had this disease up until I crashed in 2002. My temps are usually 97.6-97.9. I'm thrilled when I get up to 98.2 but some days that feels like I have a fever. So glad to hear your husband is doing well. I love when good things happen for people. This disease can be frustrating. Guest guest
Hi Gwen, That's interesting in what you said about your labs being normal for ages back in 1988 and the Dr kept testing and eventually the TSH was 95. My labs have always read normal and had been to 5 Drs in last 2 years before my last Dr just saw that my Antibodies were 35, Goitre huge with nodules - with that she dx me on the spot without further tests. I have had Thyroid since 1978 but could never get a Dr to treat me as my blood test from 1978 was only borderline ... I don't know what to think re your allergy but I would still be thinking of adrenal support - get that bumped up - and then try Armour again. I believe that the blood test for adrenals isn't that accurate ....Are your temps varying from am to pm in the same day ? If you have high Antibodies it means your Thyroid meds are not working. And if you are reacting to all meds - it seems like a histimine reaction. My hubbie was on 2 histimines a day - every day of his life - until this new Dr dx adrenal fatigue ... I certainly wouldn't take one Drs dx of 'allergic to fillers' based on one blood test. I would go back and question that. Have heard of Drs that try to blame Armour when its a normal adrenal fatigue reaction. Guest guest
> Here are the results. > 5 months on 125mcg of Synthroid blood drawn first thing in the > morning no pill taken yet > TSH 1.77 Range 0.34-5.60 > FT4 0.96 Range 0.58-1.64 > FT3 2.57 Range 2.30-3.90 The normal protocol is labs every 6 weeks, increase meds until SYMPTOMS and labs are in normal range.. notice I did SYMPTOMS in capital letters.. you still have hypo symptoms.. labs are in range but at the end of the range that an increase would still allow your labs to be in range.. As a general rule most people feel better with TSH under 1 and the T4 in the upper 2/3-3/4 end of the range although everyone has their own set points. So with your ranges..1.29-1.37 is more of a target to shoot for and still well with in the normal lab ranges. I would definitely ask the doc for an increase.. JMO about T3 it is in line with your T4 and I would wait until the T4 is higher before making a judgement about T3. Kats3boys
Guest guest
Hi Kats3boys Got a guestion about TSH. When is it at its lowest point for the day? I noticed with my labs that the ones drawn in the afternoon showed my TSH to be lower. Also the 12 week lab test my T4 was just over the mid range too but now its lower. Though with this latest blood draw I did not take my meds. The others I had taken my med for the day but the blood was drawn 8 hours later. I'm going to see if she will increase me to 137mcg. I know we talked about that the last time I was in. Cant remember what the outcome was. I hate the Brain fog. I have now been writing things down!! SOme days I'm just fine and others forget it. Thanks again Gwen > > > Here are the results. > > 5 months on 125mcg of Synthroid blood drawn first thing in the > > morning no pill taken yet > > TSH 1.77 Range 0.34-5.60 > > FT4 0.96 Range 0.58-1.64 > > FT3 2.57 Range 2.30-3.90 > > > The normal protocol is labs every 6 weeks, increase meds until > SYMPTOMS and labs are in normal range.. notice I did SYMPTOMS in > capital letters.. you still have hypo symptoms.. > labs are in range but at the end of the range that an increase would > still allow your labs to be in range.. > As a general rule most people feel better with TSH under 1 and the > T4 in the upper 2/3-3/4 end of the range although everyone has their > own set points. Guest guest
I found out that my daughter had lab results from July 2004 and only TSH were done. the range used was 0.2 - 5.5 and the result was 0.8uIU/mL.. Can someone give me an input as to what needs to be done. Her Dr. had told her in 2004 that it was normal. Please help, > > Thanks a lot, Silvia. 0.8 is a normal TSH..it is easy to think everything Hypo but if she is having a problem loosing wieght I would have the Doc run the FT4 just to make sure the thyroid is fine.. but I would also have the Doctor run a diabetes test and iron, B12 levels..July 2004 also means those labs are outdated to use as any type of reference guide as to how she is doing now..
