" ITTTT " is a book by the Hanen program. It is a wonderful book with lots of

excellent communication tips and resources for parents. The focus is on letting

the child take the lead.

I haven't read that particular book but Im pretty sure based on the

title I know the approach. Turntaking, sound play, interactive play.

If those are the things its talking about I think they are great! but

they don't work with my son to facilitate speech. I can sit down and

play with my son and if hands me the ball and say " ball' but he rarely

if ever going to say it. but if I ask what this? he will say ba right

away. I agree with the philosophy and the idea but he really needs

more encouragement right now to say wirds. I think its great for

children without speech disorders. We were at the pet store yesterday

and Taft saw a bird and excitingly pointed at it. A typical child at

his speech level would say 'bird' whie he pointed but he was silent.

I said " wow, Taft whats that your pointing at' and he said " bird' I

don't know if its appropriate to 'quiz' all the time and even though

intearactive sound play is great it is not always going to be an

approach that works for every kid. The thing is our kids have a speech

disorder and there speech or lack there of us has absoultely nothing

to do with the interaction they recieve from us at home. Jmho.

I took part in the It Takes Two to Talk program through Early Intervention.

It is a program based on the floortime approach that emphasizes a lot of

play-based activities with your child to encourage them to communicate, no

matter what their current level of speech. There is a companion book that

you can buy, that you can read and is helpful whether or not you do the

program. I thought the program was worthwhile and would recommend it to
