Lots of reasons, Tina. One easy one can be a slight pinch in the neck or

back. You can stretch to solve it if that is the problem - and

stretching daily will keep it from coming back. (if that is the reason

it's pretty easy). In fact, if your arms fall asleep alot, try to

remember every few hours to gently do some slow shoulder rolls. Like,

raise your shoulders up towards your earlobes - roll the shoulders

either foward to make a circle, or backwards. Gentle and slow is best.

Do this a few times. You might hear a crack or two if you're like

crackly old me.

You can also gently tip your head - like tip your ear toward your

shoulder - the opposite side of your neck will feel a gentle stretch.

Then do the other side.

Then - you can do circles with your head - again super slow - make them

small circles - barely anything if you've not done this much.

Another one I do is to tip my head (slowly) down - my chin toward my

chest - exhale when you reach as far down as is COMFORTABLE for you.

Then keep your head down, but with your eyes, just glance up in front of

you .. it stretches more (strange but true)

After that one - I look up, tip my head up chin and all. Then bring head

level - eyes front - and slowly turn to look over my shoulder - hold -

then the other shoulder.

The slower and gentler the better. If anything hurts - STOP. Only

stretch as far as it feels good. When my neck is knotted, I can't even

turn my head - but do TINY attempts to turn it.

Anyway - if that is the root of your arms and hands falling asleep - it

will begin to put it right shortly. :)

Night owl signing off,

-Lynn

Mine did that because of hypothyroidism, once I got my levels back down where they were supposed to be, it stopped, and so did my high blood pressure, it went back down to near normal. Is probably back up some now since my levels are off again, and I have noticed that my arms and legs have started tingling again if I sit very long too. How are your thyroid levels? Had them checked in the last 6 weeks? You might need a dose adjustment.

Also, it could be pinched or aggravated nerves in your spine, but that would require a trip to a chiro or something, so go with the thyroid levels first, and then check calcium too, and getting those right doesn't work, then I'd see an osteopath or chiro.

Tina, I don't have any particular answers for you, but my handsfall asleep all the time no matter what I am doing. Lower arms, too, though not as often. It can be low calcium as US Jane said, but there are other possibilities, too. I myself take 1500 mg of calcium a day, so am pretty sure it's not due to calcium deficiency. It's a common symptom in fibro, I believe also in hypothryoid, and can also be a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome. Hi , I am not taking anything at this point for my thyroid they told me my TSH was not bad enough to go home and wait for my number to be off or wait till my thyroid dies.I begged for months for a refferal to and Endo and finally got one on May 4th but I have not had my thyroid levels checked since they found the hashi's in Oct of last year. I have been to the Dr a few times since then to have my blood pressure checked but he never suggested any more blood work. This part of the reason I guess I am chomping at the bit I can't wait to finally see an Endo. I got this Dr off the Shomon's list of top Doc's . But my hands and arms and legs they all fall asleep all the time just sitting and doing nothing I have told my dr this and he didn't even blink just kept writing. they sent me for therapy on my neck cause I have 2 buldging discs and stenosis. I do neck exercises everyday for my neck but the extremities still are falling

asleep I go to my GP on the 24th of this month I will tell him again but doubt anything will be done about it. I get so frustrated he is a good Dr for anything but specialities he can knock a cold or bronchitis out of me like no one business and he is a sweetie but specialties just aren't his forte. But hey I will give it a try again. I won't see my Rhuemy till May 19th . So May is going to be a very busy expensive month I do believe. Well I need to get busy here today. Thanks for the advice I really do appreciate it. Hi Lynn , hey thanks for those exercises i usually do mine everyday. I got some from my physical therapist and some elastic band I use to help in the streching I do them 3 times a day ten times each but no more cause of my discs. and the stenosis. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions, and we need to get together I usually never go to bed before 1 an most times it is between 1 and 4 depends when I start feeling tired. I use the rubber band things too for my Bedxercises... I have a shorter arm one and a longer leg one.... Great for resistance work and for flexibility/stretching...

That reminds me that I need to see my

chiro again.  I just am so afraid of missing appointments.  But it could all

relate to the spinal stuff when I think of it.

I know numbing and tingling in the hands

and arms is related to this one nerve- I forget which one.  When my fibro

issues flair up I get numbness in the hands.  Or when I get a migraine, but

then it is only the one side. Of course migraines are also related to nerves, I

think.

And then I have a couple of bulging disks

in my lower back and I am missing this one reflex on my elbow or something my

PT told me before and it is likely due to nerve compression there.  But with

the problems I also have in the one leg and the nerve problem in the lower

abdomen, I suspect it is all interrelated.

Or also related to my blood pressure.  I

think that is something I need to take seriously, even if I don’t like

medication.

Ata, I get migraines to not quite as many as I us to before I went on my blood pressure pills. But even now and again I get them still, that is when I know my bp is up so i am stressing about something or another. The spinal stuff I have spinal lumbar arthritis with degenerative joint disease and in my cervical spine it is 2 buldging discs and stenosis of the spinal canal, also was bron with spinal bifida occulta ,so we will just say my back is a real mess. i have been told evenutally they will be getting me a wheelchair but hope that is far far down the road.
