Guest guest
We removed the casts yesterday. So far everything is fine and we're waiting for Dr. Morcuende to call sometime today. Emma has been moving her feet around but she does have some loss of muscle tone in her legs.. Her left foot still looks relapsed but it's supposed to straighten out with time. The right one looks great but it was the less severe of the two. We were told that it would be 2 or 3 months before her gait returns to normal. Did Dr. H give you any details regarding Dylan's feet? Thank you for thinking of us! Dan, & Emma
Guest guest
Glad to hear everything is fine. Dylan is just getting to where he's really walking on the new casts. Dylan was the same way as Emma. His left foot was worse than the right. I noticed that his left foot did not look as good as the right, either. I am getting nervous about taking this set of casts off. You took the casts off yourselves? What did you do about the stitch and " button " ? I am hoping the other stitches have dissolved when we take these casts off. Dr. H didn't give us any specific instructions about after we take the casts off. What did the doctors tell you? Bonnie B. Guest guest
We did take them off ourselves. The stitches had dissolved so all we had to do was pull on the button a little and about one inch of stitching came out with it. She did have a sore spot on each scar that has scabbed over now. Dr. Morcuende told us that we should let Emma do whatever she wants for the next two weeks and just follow her lead. We were also told not to bath her for a couple of days until the small hole under her foot healed. I'm still not sure how this will affect our kids but Dr. M said that it takes 4 to 6 months for the brain to rewire itself and adapt to the new position of the tendon. I'll tell you more once he has called back. What about taking the casts off makes you nervous?
Guest guest
Well, nothing really as far as taking them off. I guess I am just worried that he will hurt something. :-) Bonnie B. Guest guest
I know what you mean. Dr. Morcuende told us that Emma should take it easy for 2-3 months but that we shouldn't stop her from doing what she wants. I'm not sure how to interpret that. I guess we just have to wait and see.
