Guest guest
Theresa and all other new members, welcome to the group! I'm sorry if I haven't welcomed you all individually, I have been in a crash lately. You have all found a great group of people here. Theresa, I did want to answer your question about work and walking. Everyone here is affected differently. Some are able to work, others are not. Same with walking. I am 27 and had to retire from full time teaching at age 25. I currently work 2 1/2 hours a day, 5 days a week (I usually stay more than my 2 1/2 hours), as an At Risk Reading Associate. I then sub in the afternoons once or twice a month. This is what my body can handle right now. I used a manual wheelchair for many years, but just started using a power chair for at work only. Otherwise I use the manual, or I walk in my apartment with a walker as much as I can. I do not want to give the walking up, if I can help it, but my balance is not the greatest, so I do have to be safe about it. I do have good initial strength, as all of my doctors will tell you, it is my endurance that is not the greatest. Smiles, a Thank's for the welcome, .To what extend are the members here affected by their respective disorders? Are most able to work? To walk?
