I used www.charitycards.co.uk again last night - since one of the

cards was a sympathy card for a friend whose brother has just died of

epilepsy (scary, he had it well controlled and went into status

epilepticus in the night on his own :-( - doctors said no-one could

have done anything), it was especially appropriate to see that there

was an epilepsy charity to allocate the share of the price to - NCT

really should get in on this!

Anyway, as a result of my browsing I wrote this to them:

" 2) Amongst your new baby cards there is one entitled First Feed

which depicts a bottle. Whilst there are people who do not wish to

breastfeed for personal reasons or who are unable to in very specific

situations, this kind of card contributes to a culture in which

artificial feeding is depicted as the norm and breastfeeding is

insufficiently supported - to the detriment of babies and mothers'

health, both long and short term. It seems ironic that formula

feeding is associated with an increased risk of some of the illnesses

represented by the charities with which you work. I hope you will

remove it, you have lots of other nicer cards. "

And received the following response:

" I take your point about the card. I don't think we can buy it any

more anyway, so it will disappear when current stock runs out. "

(I really hope the intended recipient of the new baby card I did

order is ready to receive it, she went in for induction on Saturday

night)
