Bob:

In addition to the Rx's you listed, are you taking any herbals,

supplements, or OTC meds? Magnesium particularly?

I take no herbs or supplements just the low dose Toprol, Warfarin and

Lipitor. I have related the problem to this medication but the usual

remedies don't work.

A cure for the problem is very large doses of pepto bismal (8 caplets

a day for 8 weeks). This really works but is not possible when on

Warfarin.

I would doubt that your condition is related to A/fib more like your meds.

I would seek medical advice as you do not want to stay like that for very

long.

Saying this it may be worry? but I would look at the drugs your taking read

the small print that come with your prescription.

I didn't have diarrhea on Toprol, but I did have a major " gas " problem. I

switched to atenolol, the gas problem diminished very significantly, and the

rate

control is as good. You might ask your physician for a different beta-blocker,

we each respond differently to the same meds. GI problems are fairly common

with beta-blockers.

Also, lipitor must be checked for liver function periodically, so you might

alert

your physican to the GI problem, as changes in liver function can alter gut

processes.

The suggestion about supplements is also important. Selective elimination,

one at a time, of supplements, might yield information.

Best. Kathleen (24/7, atenolol, digoxin, coumadin)
