Guest guest
Has anyone else received the Gazunder Gang in the post? I had one - a long time ago - and it is somewhere under the piles of not quite urgent post - being awash with kids books after my days working at Penguin (2 free ones a day, mostly took children's ones) I thought I wouldn't bother, also I did think that £5 a throw was quite a lot to pay for something that wasn't tried and tested. I'm a bit cynical about all the new books that keep getting published when there are a lot of very good ones that are going and have gone out of print which might have been better (were better?)....(quite a lot of which can be picked up at NNS's and Oxfams jumble sales etc...) I was always very keen on the suggestions of Dorothy in her 'Babies Need Books' neatly sorted into year age categories (which you don't need to stick to) as they were always faves with us... I had one - a long time ago - and it is somewhere under the piles of not quite urgent post [sue] I got a book and tape. Steffi, then 3yo, quite enjoyed it particularly the song at the beginning and we used to listen to the tape sometimes whilst I made dinner. But it didn't thrill me enough to subscribe. She did pretty well without them in September when her old school, to which she will be returning in September, managed to introduce her to books. I don't like them (I never liked widgets which all firms featured in my accountancy exams used to produce either but then that was before they were associated with beer so maybe, just maybe, a couple of years may have made all the difference!) but I;ll have to live with them I suppose. We picked up an Enid Blyton book here. Now there's an author fondly remembered from my childhood. But I am shocked at how bad the children are and how often they get 'spanked'. I think I'll stick to Father Koala's Fairy Tales - 3 little wombats and the big bad dingo. Or has anyone read 3 little wolves and the big bad pig? What a hoot! I really upset someone on the tram here though, narrating that story to Steffi! -- Sue
