Guest guest Posted August 11, 2004 Report Share Posted August 11, 2004 Hi All, I'm about to start my 3 1/2 year old son on ProEFA. Is it better to give it in the am or pm? Also, anyone have any hints about convincing a child to poop on the potty? My son has been potty trained for urine for about 6 months. He will not have anything to do with pooping on the potty. He simply asks me for a diaper when he has to go. It's been going on a really long time and I'm starting to think he'll never go on the potty. I don't believe in forcing him. Guest guest Posted August 11, 2004 Report Share Posted August 11, 2004 Tricia, Most of us have had better success with offering Proefa in the morning. Evening doses of the Proefa have interfered with some chidren's nightime sleeping. I have given if to my daughter in the morning following breakfast. In terms of potty training, we had the same problem with my daughter. She would ask for the diaper when she needed to poop, then stand in the corner, do her business, and I would than change her. What we started to do was introduce the potty for pooping very slowly. At first, when she asked for the diaper the rule was that she had to stand in the bathroom to poop -- not in her room or any where else in the house. After a week or so of that, then when she was in the bathroom pooping, she needed to sit on the potty WITH HER DIAPER ON to poop. The theory is that she still has the safety of the diaper but she is getting used to the feel of the toilet under her, on her legs, etc. Then after she was really comfortable with that, I cut a small hole in the diaper that might possibly allow some poop to come out. This was a very scary step for my daughter so we had to start with a very small hole in the diaper and gradually enlarge it. After a few times of some poop coming out and she was still safe, we tried pooping without the diaper. This was really hard for her, but after she did it once without the diaper then she was fine!! We had to use lots of rewards along the way --- M & M's worked well for her!! Hope this makes sense and gives you soemthing else to try. Guest guest Posted August 11, 2004 Report Share Posted August 11, 2004 It took one year after pee-pee training my son to get the poopie right. My pediatrician suggested that we get a small potty rather than a ring for our big potty for luke as it allows him to bear downa push easier and it is not as scary.
