For Isaac, the Leap Frog Letter Factory and Talking Words Factory DVDs helped,

but he is 2 1/2. I think they're worth it.

[ ] Do Videos Help ?

I thought I would ask,....before speding hard earned money, on the

Baby Bumble Bee Vocablulary Builder DVD's. I have read so many

parent comments of how their " non verbal " child all of a sudden

started talking...(hummm) that made me want to ask some of you who

may have tried them. My son just turned 5 and has very, very few

words so I am desperate buy don't want to fall down the " expensive "

black hole of empty promises.....any advice would really be

appreciated. Thanks,

Colleen....mom of 5 severe apraxia, and moderate oral apraxia

I THINK I'VE ANSWERED THIS QUESTION ON VIDEOS BEFORE... SO THE PEOPLE WHO

HAVE PREVIOUSLY READ FROM ME, SORRY BUT HERE IT GOES AGAIN!!! LOL. I TRULY

SUPPORT VIDEO THERAPY (AS I CALL IT) MY SON ALSO 5, IS A VERY VISUAL LEARNER.

I HAD INVESTED HEAVILY IN VIDEOS AFTER MY SON LOOKED AT A SOCCER BALL AND

SAID " MOMMY PENTAGON " HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU LOOKED AT A SOCCER BALL AND DID

NOT REALIZE IT'S COMPONENTS WERE PENTAGONS. HE WAS COMPLETELY NON VERBAL

TILL 3 1/2. I KNOW YOUR SON IS A LITTLE OLDER BUT THESE VIDEOS HAVE HELPED MY

SON TREMENDOUSLY. HE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOISED WITH ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT

HYDROCEPHALUS (EXTRA FLUID ON THE BRAIN). AND IS SHUNTED. THESE VIDEOS HAVE

SHOWN

HIM HOW TO RELATE TO PEOPLE, SPELLING AND EVERYDAY SITUATIONS. HE DID NOT

LIKE THE BABY BUMBLEBEE VIDEOS, BY THE WAY. I HAVE NO AFFLIATION WITH THESE

COMPANIES BELOW EXCEPT TO TELL YOU THEY WORKED WITH MY SON AND NOW MY 2 YEAR

OLD LIKES THEM TOO. SOME ARE RATHER EXPENSIVE, BUT WORTH 10X WHAT A PAID FOR

THEM FOR THE RESULTS I HAVE GOTTEN.

_WWW.SPECIALKIDS1.COM_ (http://www.SPECIALKIDS1.COM)

ABOUT $25 A TAPE

_WWW.WATCHMELEARN.COM_ (http://www.WATCHMELEARN.COM)

$30

_WWW.SMALL-FRY.COM_ (http://www.SMALL-FRY.COM)

$16

I THINK WE MUST HAVE LIKE 200 VIDEOS, BUT EACH ONE I GET HAS A REASON WHY I

BOUGHT IT. IT WAS TIME TO MOVE ON FROM ELMO AND BLUE'S CLUES. EVEN THOUGH

THEY CAN BE EDUCATIONAL TOO, IT IS NO WHERE NEAR THE AMOUNT OF INFO ON THESE

TAPES. AND YES, IT DID SPUR SOME TV TALK FROM HIM, BUT HE SUBSITUTES NOUNS

AND VERBS FOR SITUATIONS HE'S IN, DOES THAT MAKES SENSE? INSTEAD OF SAYING "

POOH WENT TO SEE RABBIT " HE'LL SAY " MOMMY WENT TO SEE DADDY " AND IT WILL BE

TOTALLY APPROPRIATE. SORRY SO LONG OF A RESPONSE, BUT VERY STRONG ON MY

POSITIVE FEELINGS WITH VIDEO USE. SCHOOL DIDN'T LIKE MY USE OF THEM SO MUCH,

BUT

AFTER THE RESULTS THEY COULDN'T DENY IT'S POSITIVE EFFECTS. MAYBE YOU CAN

GET THEM ON EBAY FOR CHEAPER. LORI

Hi, My son is 3 yrs 10mths and LeapFrog Videos have helped him alot. He

still only says the sounds, but I put up a poster with the ABCs and he goes to

the letter and points to it and says the sound. I also have the first three Baby

bumble bee and he likes it also. He has started saying a few words with the

videos. But we have found them very helpful. Hope this helps. Phyllis

I think the Leapfrog videos have helped my son. He is learning to picture

words in his mind and then " read " them, providing a prompt to help him form

the words. The Leapfrog videos teach letter sounds and early words. The

newest Leapfrog video teaches several more complex things such as simple

blends (sh, ch), silent 'e', and the " when two vowels go walking " theory. I

saw the set of all three language DVDs as well as the new math DVD in a set

a Sam's club for about $35. That's really a deal, and I think they are

worth it. One really annoying thing - these videos use all capital letters,

which I think most schools discourage.
