Guest guest
>> TSH 4.67 Free T3 260 Free T4 0.9 I take 90 mg Armour and 2.5 mg Prednisone at 5:00 am; and again at 2:30. I originally started on 60 mg Armour daily and am now up to 180 daily; the past several days I have been absolutely exhausted and don't know where to go from here. I also get out of breath very easily. Is it ok to take more than 180 mg of Armour? << How fast have you raised the Armour? I started the Armour in July, so it has been over five months since I began taking it. I do not have cortisol labs, the cost is prohibitive. > > >> TSH 4.67 > Free T3 260 > Free T4 0.9 > > I take 90 mg Armour and 2.5 mg Prednisone at 5:00 am; and again at 2:30. > I originally started on 60 mg Armour daily and am now up to 180 daily; > the past several days I have been absolutely exhausted and don't know > where to go from here. Guest guest
" the cost is prohibitive. " FYI------ I too did not test before going on HC. In hindsite, I do think that I needed it but, unfor. I kept raising my dose and got on way too much for my body to handle. Also, the cells in your body get used to the extra cortisol and it becomes very difficult to wean without withdrawel effects. So, my advice to anyone who goes on cortisol without testing??? IMO, Please wean off and get tested. In my case, I ended up with severe palpitations, weight gain, hair loss, depression, buffalo hump, major depression, weakness, hot flashes and found out that it was all caused by the cortisol. I am down to 4mg. Medrol now (equiv. 20 HC) and am still weaning. I noticed you are on Prednisone? Are you paying out of pocket for this? The reason I ask is bc in reality you are paying for the prescriptions out of pocket and that$$ would have been spent to pay for your Adrenal testing .....Please know that I am NOT trying to throw stones, but, think it is important for some to read this. I too had the symptom of weakness and got out of breath easily. It was caused by the steroids. My mistake was going past 20-25 mg. of HC. I thought that by going up, I would get better and better results. Those " good " feelings don't last. I have since done the research I should have done on my own before and read some studies that have showed that our bodies make only 20-25 mg. of Cortisol per day, without stress. I made a huge mistake in that I did not test first to see how much my body was making on its own. I could have then used those " results " as a starting point in how much to go up to in my treatment. I will never know, to this day, where I was at.... And, that is a huge regret on my part. Sorry that I am going on and on but, want " others " to benefit from my mistakes. Yes, many of us need to heal our Adrenals. But, there is a fine line here. And, many go above that line. A bottle of 500 was $23.00. Yes, I see how that would have covered the $200 adrenal test. Please do not take this the wrong way, but I am not interested in an evaluation of my spending habits. Being a single mother of four, I assure you that an out of pocket cost of well over $100 for an adrenal test is simply not in the budget. Guest guest
Should the price be different when you do the test through a doctor? They form with the test the doctor gave me yesterday says $99.00. I don't know if my insurance will reimburse me or not, but it can be my Christmas and birthday present if not. As a single mother with 4 children, I can only imagine the balancing act you are doing on a day to day basis, especially while you are sick. I haven't been on this list very long, but I'm sure any comments made by anyone here are only meant to be helpful, not critical. However, the only way to be properly treated is to get the proper tests done so you can know what is truly going on in your body. I wonder if you could get some sort of financial assistance for the test from somewhere. Maybe a local church or ministry of some sort. I know there is a ministry in my area that helps local people out with all sorts of situations. It couldn't hurt to ask around some.
