Zoe's checkup w/Dr. H

Hi Everyone!

Well, we drove the 2 hours to Baltimore and back to see Dr. Herzenberg

today. (We drive from Virginia to Vermont a few times a year, so we broke

down and bought the VCR player for the car, so Zoe watched videos all the

way there and back, then took a 3 hour nap when we got home...).

The good news is that Dr. Herzenberg was really happy with how her foot is

doing.

The bad news is, she's not out of the shoes yet. I had been hopeful because

she just turned 2 1/2, didn't need a tenotomy and wore the shoes full time

for 5 months...

BUT, she is in the largest shoe size Markell makes (8), so Dr. Herzenberg

said when she outgrows the shoes, she'll be done. We don't have to go back

for 5 months... My only concern is that she starts to get uncomfortable as

soon as her toes reach the end, so I don't think they'll fit for 5 more

months. Usually when the shoes aren't fitting properly, she has difficulty

sleeping...

We'll wait and see what happens and try not to worry about it until then.

Hope you're all doing well!

Joanne,

Great news! Thanks for the update.

I'm sure you are disappointed about the brace .. but just think that

it's really not all that long to keep wearing it, and this window

around age 2 is, as Dr. Ponseti described it to me, a " treacherous

time " for relapse.. so better to be safe ..

is over 3 now and still wearing the brace till the end of the

year.. she's in a size 7 narrow. Maybe now that Zoe is a little older

her feet won't grow at quite as fast a rate as before.. I hope it

works out!

Good luck...
