doodlebugs and roly-poly bugs

If the pictures below don't show up, refer to the following websitehugs,Janet... who's hubby says that a there is no such insect as a 'doodle bug'.... He says to tell y'all that a doodlebug is a 5th grader that doodles incessantly.http://www.antlionpit.com/faq.htmlWhat is a doodlebug?"Doodlebug" is the U.S. colloquial name for the larval form of the pit-digging varieties of antlions. In the southern U.S., the term "doodlebug" sometimes is used (less accurately) to describe two types of terrestrial isopods: sow bugs and pill bugs. The pill bug is colloquially known as a "roly-poly bug" because of its ability to roll up into a tight ball, just as an armadillo does when attacked.

Well I wasn't in the country, just didn't have money and definitely didn't have computers, cable, or video games! I We just played outside all of the time. I remember on rainy days I LOVED to play school! I always was the teacher. Those were such good times. Now kids are too high tech!

TOPS hugs, Ruth

The little "saying" for doodlebugs that I remember is:

Doodlebug, Doodlebug, come out of your hole -

Your house is on fire and your children are gone - -

You repeated this over and over as you circled their tunnel with a twig - - sometimes they would come out and sometimes they wouldn't!! But I remember spending many hours doing just that!

When you're a country kid, you have to make your own entertainment - we sure didn't have money for toys!

This was not the saying that I knew. "Your house is on fire" was part of it,but it rhymed and there were 4 or more lines. Wish I could remember it. I spent hours over doodle bug holes with a small stick.
